New UK HP2S

After 6 months of waiting I picked up my HP2S this weekend! Well worth the wait, this is my first BMW so I'm still getting used to some slightly odd characteristics, like the fact the bike doesn't dive when I grab a hand full of front but other than that I'm loving it and can't wait to complete my first 600miles and really open the taps!

It has ABS but no funky extra’s (not that there are many to choose from) I got it covered in “venture shield” to protect the paint/panels, and am waiting for a hugger, but that’s it.

Oh and it was the sunniest weekend of the year, which was nice too!

Welcome to the small group of HP2S owners. You'll love the lightness and the handling. A tank bag and a back pack will be all the accessories you need for twistie fun.

Great. What number is it? Just curious. Which hugger did you get? Seems there was a thread on the hugger(s) but somehow lost it. Good luck, ride safe.

Thanks guys. Sure looking forward to getting the first service out of the way!

How would I see what number it is? Is it the last few digits of the chassis number?

No hugger yet, but have an ilmberger on order

Last three of the VIN Luke. If I remember also, you liked the Bagger system for the tankbag. I still like mine a lot. Yeah, it covers the gorgeous tank (and I guess you could say it protects it from what, I don't know) but being able to carry STUFF is important to me. I was thinking I'd only use it for long trips but heck, why would I take the Sport on a long trip with a GT and an Adventure

Best of luck,
John

LH,

Congratulations! What a coincidence, mine happens to look just like yours.

I wonder if the serial numbers are sequential across the total production, or specific to a Country or World Region? I would think that total production would be much higher than #185 by now.

John, it's going to much more rare than the R12S. I'm thinking a max of 300 for '08-'09. When you subtract the race bikes and prototypes, I'll bet it's around 280.

Maybe we ought to name it the HP2S Dragon's Tooth because those are very hard to find also.

Not to worry Shreddr. There's nothing fowl on the HP2S. It's an air-cooled fire-breathing dragon of a bike. You already know the Horse Power.

Luke,
don't forget to get on the Boxertrix site in the UK.
their a great bunch of 'Nancy boys' and a good source for riders in the UK.
BUT this is the site you need to keep in contact with other riders the world over.
Congrats on your new bike.

Nice bike Luke ...
Mine looks just the same over here, as in GB and USA

(P.s. ... total expected HP2 Sport numbers +/- 1500 !!!???)

mine would be #1185

I noticed the R1200S has disappeared from the BMW Motorad de site, so I imagine the HP2S will cease production this year, around 1500 bikes in total sounds highly likley

(I personally know of 1 write-off already in the UK so looks like our bikes are already getting rarer!)

Where did you get the 1500 number?
Everything I have heard it will be more like 300-400 max.
I assume only 250 units have been made so far.

Your # is 1012?
Interesting.
Sergio what do you make of this number?
jeff

Begin last year I heard the number was 1700 in total ... to be made in three years !
at the end of that year they ("they" are different BMW'dealers) say it will be around 1500 ... !?
now I've heard that production will not be continued in 2010 ???
so I don't know what the final production numbers will be ...

No way that the numbers you say will be 300-400 max.
there were +/- 70 for the first delivery in the US of A in the beginning of 2008 ... (maybe there were two delivery's more after that .. that makes about 150 to 200 in the US alone )
Germany(of course), Italyë and Spain are the three big country's BMW delivers motorbike's, also the HP2 Sport !!!
Ask Throttlemeister (Gijs) ... I think he will know the exact deliver numbers (or know's how to find it, sale's per year) of all BMW's ... nation and also world wide !?

there were 20 bike's planned to be delivered in Holland
I had track of 12 of them ... !!!

I just did a quick search and found the last HP2S in the latest online ETK (from January) and it's the 812th Euro spec bike built: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?vin=ZS60812

Seems they are making very few for the USA: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?vin=ZS70138 (138 as of January)

So yeah, maybe total world wide run will be around 1500??
