BMW R1100S Sport versus Boxercup

I foolishly sold my 20004 R1100S Sport ( I dont know if this is an Australian only model??). Soon after realising my mistake I actively sort a replacement, hence a 2005 Boxercup.

Can someone please advise - are there "3" different ride heights for the R1100S.

I have ridden plenty of standard R1100S's, my R1100S Sport was definetly higher in the rear compared to the standard model.
The Boxercup is even higher in the rear again - is it simply a matter of changing the torque arm to lower the rear end.
Any assistance much appreciated.

The 11S Sport badging was not offered in the USA; however, the sport suspension was available. There are only two oem ride heights that I'm aware of for the 11S. All other ride heights are via aftermarket torque arms and shocks. Both pics are good lookin' 11S bikes.

Hi,

I'd guess on three as well:

1. Normal suspension
2. Sport Suspension
3. Sport Suspension with late model toque arm (what I have)

No 3 might be what the Boxer Cup model has.

I can't remember if the dimensions of the Sport shocks changed over time. I asked BMW GB to confirm that using my 1999 sport shock with a late model R11S torque arm would not cause endless drive train issues and they said it was OK.

Actually, this might help:

How tall is yours?

Someone on that post suggested the Boxer Cup might have a different sized shock from the sport.

Regards,

Adrian

Ditto,

The light models here is the US featured the longest shocks (front and rear) with the longer paralever.

Sports and BCR featured the shorter paralever with standard height shocks (different spring rates and damping tho).

When I replaced my shocks with Wilbers, I ordered them the same height as the light models (longest) plus I have installed the GS-length paralever; this makes the bike significantly more agile but just as stable. This combo works OK for my inseam (32"), but if you have shorter legs, it might be vertically challenging. Also, with this set up, if you have a center-stand, it becomes useless but there are no clearance problems what-so-ever, you run out of rubber before scraping anything.

The 2003 2004 is higher but less than the 2005 model.
The 2005 BCR is the highest.

On my 05 BCP if the bike was any higher the torque arm would hit the belly pan. So I am guessing if ride height was more a priority than handling then a shorter torque arm would there by lower ride heigth possibly. Of course you have to have a big enough ballast on the seat to compress the rear spring to accomplish that as well. No problem here. SJBMW has a real slick adjustable torque arm. Just thought I would give them a plug, super folks.

Your '05 is the tallest R1100S because of the shorter torque arm & taller seat. An '04 seat will bring you closer to the ground, and the longer torque arm will get you all the way there.

If that is really the case, I'll trade you my '04 seat for your '05 as I am flat footed with knees bent at a stop...

05 BXR Cup

The 05 came standard with the optional comfort seat, that alone raises the seat height 1-11/4". I'm pretty sure it also has the longest version of the sport shocks.
Plus the 365mm paralever arm.

A standard seat (ball crusher) or aftermarket (Sargent) or custom modded stock seat is the easiest way to lower it.

I found the comfort seat to be the best fit for me. I even tried a Rick Mayer seat
and kept sliding into the tank.

Good luck

too high for some

Thanks to one and all for your great replys - questions answered.

I can handle the high seat height, but anyone under 5'10 would struggle to touch the ground.

Thanks again for the excellent feedback.

Steve
