BST Wheels front and rear set mismatched

I finally took the BST wheels I got a few months ago for my R1200S into my local shop with new tires. Then after that I brought the bike in.

The plan was to put the new tires on the new wheels, take the old wheels and tires off the bike, transfer the rotors to the new wheels, and put on new wheels with new tires. Yet, it turns out there was big problem as the rear wheel was OK, but the front was too wide and measured for a K1200S front wheel. It not is, but the box label says 17 X 3.5 so it is wrong.

I confirmed with the vendor it is wrong, he even discovered he has another mismatch set there. He is sending me a R front wheel now, and I have to send back my K wheel.

I only hope it comes in time to fit before I leave 7/13 for the MOA National.

It sounds like the vendor is being cool about it, stuff happens. Hope it all goes well and you get your new wheel in time.

Dealing with the BST dealer in South Africa. He has a real bone to pick with BST over this, as do I.

Bummer

My tolerance for mistakes goes down as the cost of the part goes up.

I love my BST wheels, and have had no trouble with them, ALTHOUGH, when i got my last set of tires mounted up, i was walking out of the shop and realized the rear tire was on backwards. so i took it back in and the guy says "I followed the arrows" sure enough there is a rotation direction on my wheel that is opposite what it should be. i know the back wheels on the K and R are the same, i guess they decided they could market the same wheels to the few R12 buyers out there. oh well

Just goes to show you, take nothing at face value and check everything your self. If it does not pass the common sense test most likely something is wrong. I would love a set of those. Blue CF front and white CF rear. Or maybe just a color match lip to tie in the 05 BCP theme.

Front wheel box says the wheel is 17 X 3.5. Pretty wheel inside box and plastic wrap is 4.0 wide. It is a BST packaging issue.

Shred, why would there be a directional arrow on the wheel if it's ok for it to rotate either way? Just curious.

good question, I suppose I ought to reach out to BST for an answer, because the spindles are radial though I doubt there is much difference in the forces it can withstand from either direction.

Are you sure you're measuring properly (NOT outside width). BST doesn't make a 4" front for a BMW.

My BST rear wheel has no directional arrows on it. It only has 2 BST logos on each side and a serial number plate on the rim face.
The part number is 21002-9005-16000
The description is BMW K1200 ORW 17" X 6.0"

Are you sure you measured the wheel correctly?
Rim width is measured from the [B]inside[B] edge to inside edge of the bead walls where they meets the rim not the outside width across the width of the wheel.
If you measured there your measurement will be too large.
