Question R1100S Center Stand Handle/Raised Handle Mounting Question

Hi All,
My bike didn't have the side cases hardware when I bought it so with the kind help of some board members I bought a set of system cases and the complete mounting kit.
However, I couldn't figure out away to remount the 'raised handle' (as shown below) so I can easily put my bike on its center stand. I haven't looked at any other bike to see but I believe the 'raised handle' should be able to fit with the system case mounting hardware, correct?
Some pictures of how your 'raised handle' is mounted with your system case mounting racks would help. I have a Two Brothers Cat eliminator and have a real hard time mounting the heat deflector anyway. I can only mount it with one bolt not the two it has.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Robert

I've never seen that before. Sure would like to have one myself.

It is the handle you use to put your bike on its center stand. Using the system case rack turns my hand the wrong way, at least for me it is the wrong way, and I can't get a good grip.

I don't think that can be mounted along with the case holders. Not 100% sure, but I think it's an either or setup. I remember another S rider having something like that but didn't have bags. I looked at adding this but after looking at his couldn't see a way to mount both.

I think you're right but I have to ask. I could not see away to mount the riser handle, but I haven't looked at any other bikes to be sure. I hope we're both wrong, because I need that handle to put mine on the center stand, weak and arthritis.

I have the original installation instructions for the saddle bag retro fit kit. I'm pretty sure it says you must remove the handle. I'll check on it this weekend when I get a chance. I miss the fold out handle on my old K100. Now that was cool.

Hi Robert,

I also believe that it is either/or, you can't have you handle and bag rail together.

But you can cup your hand under the side of the bag rail and lift gently whilst using your leg to press firmly down on the centre stand pedal. This will easily raise the bike onto the stand, you do not need to use much lifting pressure at all.

I did miss the lifting handle initially after I installed my bag rails but it just requires
a slightly different technique.

Cheers,

Frank

Thanks that would be a great help. I just can't get a 'good angle' to put my bike on the center stand using the system case rack.
Please email me offline if you can captrehkopfatcomcastdotnet
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks,

Frank,
I understand but my hand just doesn't fit too well underneath the system case rack, bad angle for me I guess. I know to push down with your foot but I can't get enough fingers underneath the rack to control the bike and pull up. Just me and my hand. I appreciate the advice and help.

The Wuderlich handle comes in black or silver. It might work on the sub-frame.

The old K100 had fold out handle with a boss welded to the frame. It had a contoured plastic handle that worked great!

I believe you've solved my problem. The Wunderlich handle will definitely work although expensive as always. I will check out the BMW Part also. Now I have a way to do what I need. But the question still remains: can the OEM R1100S handle be installed WITH the case rack?

I can't figure out how the OEM part worked? Where did it attach and how was it put out of the way?

It's been a while since I looked at a K100. As I recall the handle screwed to a boss welded to the frame just forward of the saddle bag. It was spring loaded in the folded position (basically vertical). You just rotated it up and out and it stopped at about 90*. When you let go it snapped back to it's stowed position next to the frame rail. I was quite disappointed to find that BMW had done away with it on the K1100.

I suspect you'd have to drill a hole in the sub-frame and weld in a boss of some kind to retro fit one to the 1100S. Maybe cut one from a wrecked K100 frame. A good winter project perhaps.

I don't know whether the Wunderlich handle will fit the sub-frame tube on the S but it seems like the easier option. You may have to change the radius of the clamps. If it were cheaper I'd take the chance. At $99 plus, I don't know.

If I get a chance I'll see if I can post a photo of my K100 showing the handle this weekend.

My 1100S came with the bag mounts already on it. I don't even have the original handle to play with (I do have the heat shield though).

I have emailed Wunderlich America and ask if the handle bar fits a R1100S. I have the same concerns as you about wasting $100 on something that doesn't fit properly. I'll let the Board know what I hear back. The handle is not listed as a Wunderlich part that fits the R1100S!
I appreciate the help and let me know if you can get both heat shield bolts to bolt.

Thumbs down

Bad News! From Wunderlich

Hello and thank you very much for your inquiry.
Part number 8160457 does not fit the R1100 S nor do we have a similar part to fit the S. Sorry about that.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Best regards,
William Plam
