Need some help jacking up my bike.
My R12S is the first bike I've owned without a center stand. I have the front and rear Pit Bulls, but that's no good for dropping the final drive down for service. I have this nice Craftsman aluminum motorcycle jack (not the red and black atv one).
![]() Its arms are too wide to firmly hold the engine block, maybe .5" on each end and I'd like a little more coverage. Can I just use a 2x6 board across the arms? Or is it ok to lift the bike by the header pipes? Thanks.

I never had an issue with lifting it by the pipes.... but 2x4 or 2x6 works as well....

I'll Take The Bait
Rick, is it routine service or are you having a problem with the final drive?

No problems at all. I'm just doing my 12k mile service. Putting 1000 miles on her next week with a ride to LA and back.

Not impressed with this method at all. It took several tries to get it to where I could remove the rear Pit Bull. And even then it still felt pretty unstable. I need to watch someone else do this.

If you have a lift point in you garage, you can rig a tiedown strap through the trellis frame and use a ratchet tiedown strap the hoist it off the rear wheel. I have and I beam in my Bikehaus basement that allows me to suspend the bike.
