OT: Scorpion helmet repair

I have the EXO-1000. The cheek pads are secured by three pins, one of which is a slide fit into a clip, not a press fit into the shell. Well that clip has pulled out of the shell. corpion says not to glue it back in. They'll repair it for me of course($$s).

But in your opinions, would gluing the clip back in compromise shell integrity?

If the pin is in or contacts the styrene, they are probably concerned about using Cyanoacrylate (super glue) which can "eat" or degrade styrene. If the pin is in the hard outer shell, I don't know about why that would be an issue. What's the warranty period? Is it expired? Another reason to try Arai next time-5 year warranty.

No it is still under warranty but the fact is I caused the damage by being ham handed. It isn't a very robust part.

Yes the pin is in the styrene. I wonder if a putty epoxy would be safe for the styrene?

Frankly, even though you pulled the pin out, that fact that it is not robust, I think Scorpion would rather err on the side of caution and fix it for you rather than risk a rider somehow insufficiently implementing their own repair. This is rather extreme but God forbid something ever happened, I would not want to be Scorpion and explain to a jury that they had an opportunity to correctly repair your helmet for a minor expense and they declined.
I would recontact them and confirm that that is their position. Ask to speak to a supervisor or manager that may have a better understanding of the company's liability exposure.

Exactly what I'm doing Cageyar, awaiting the return call now. Thought I'd see what the PP combined oracle thought of DIY.

thanks chum.

I've recently used a new white type of Gorilla Glue to secure a metal on metal joint and was very pleased with the result. Given the tiny bit this pin might require I doubt the polyurethane glue would cause any degradation of the foam thru the three year life span

Good that Scorpion responds to their customers. Shark did not. New Shoei X-11 should be here today. Cant wait. Anyone want a Shark RS1 size LG, cheap, CAUTION visor could pop up at high speeds.

Just as an aside-my left side pod on my Arai RX7 Corsair developed a crack on the top edge about 2mm long. I noticed it because a little chip of paint flaked off.
Contact Arai this morning-two hours later, I received communication that they are sending me a replacement pod (these are painted to match the graphics, BTW) and they gave me a contact number to have someone walk me through the replacement procedure, which I hadn't requested.
Arai is a class company and they stand behind their 5 year warranty. I haven't worn anything but Arai for the last 23 years and I'm satisfied.

Scorpion said send it back we'll fix it. Sounds like it happens often enough that they just fix them up.

Scorpion sent me replacement parts for my EXO-700 no questions asked, for free! I dropped the helmet (gently) and the vent fin thingy flew off.

Also, HJC repaired my brandy-new SyMaxII where a screw broke inside the flip latching mechanism -- it took them 3 or 4 weeks to return the helmet to my dealer, missing my "NJ Inspection stickers" to boot!

Update on the Arai side pod that chipped/cracked.
Got the new one-perfect paint match.
The old one was stuck-would not pop off-called Arai-gave me advice on the phone that got it right off and they waited while I did it-toll free number BTW.
Great service.
Arai may not be the best helmet value out there but they fit me perfectly, I like their middle ground between too plain and excessive graphics. I can't see any reason to switch.
Flatbutt: did you get your hat back from Scorpion?
