How bad was it in the Blairsville, Suches, Young Harris area? We have no TV in the house. Were there high winds?

It hasn't rained much here in Charlotte. Spoke with Atlanta Chris this morning and he said they have had 7 straight days of rain there.
The rain has stayed pretty much south of us. Also spoke with Swarty the other day in Razorland and he mentioned having to take a detour to get to work because of the flooding.

Yes Atlanta has been hit really hard. At least 5 dead and many more homeless as a result of over flowing creeks. Potions of I 20 west are shut down and more rain is expected today. Not that much but any rain with the ground saturated is too much! I live in downtown Atlanta and had some water in the basement but nothing significant. However many people are seriously impacted and rush hour is a nightmare. People are being advised to stay at home.

I'm tied up in Georgia and hope to get up to the Bikehaus to check on things. hopefully the end of the week.

We had several homes in my hood get about 4" of water in the house. Others in our local dry bed creek get inundated.

Joel, North Georgia doesn't look good for a weekend run right now. Are you going to WNC.

Chewie, this is what happens when you clump a few million people together and pave or put a rooftop over 50 square miles of earth. Water's get to go somewhere. I'm concerned that 9 lives were lost in this event. One life was lost on a bet that the guy could swim across a flooded ditch. Not a very sane act. Others were trying to ford a road covered with fast moving water.

Reference Joel's sigfile, I came across this word "slumgullion" used in a sentence today! From Least Heat-Moon's "River Horse", where he discusses how early river travelers up the Montana Missouri came to name the places they saw, he describes, "hell-bent newcomers(who wouldn't recognize God if It stood up in their bowls of slumgullion)". So I looked it up. "Meat stew." And now back to our regularly scheduled chat about things weather in Georgia.

We lost a neighbor the other day to a dam overflow pipe that was clogged. He entered the water to unblock it and when it opened up it sucked him right into it. Now this guy had achieved a lot in life and was not known to be careless or foolish. Kind of like the flowing grain deaths that occur way too often. A real shame.

Bob, I gave Joel the name Slumgullion after a 130mph plus run across parts of Slumgullion Pass in Colorado. He just wouldn't let the guy go on the Speed Triple. I have to admit that the triple wallowed around all over the road. Can't believe the guy didn't park it in the ditch. I don't think Joel liked the name at first but I feel like he's alright with it now. Anyway Joel really likes to ride.

"Anyway Joel really likes to ride." I'll say! Joel, like Dee, can "hold his own" anyplace there is paved road. The speed triple whatever just miss-judged who he was dealing with.

Did you know what it meant, dee? I had never heard it used....just thought it was one of those creative word-slurs.

Bob, I didn't know what it meant . Thanks for the info.
All I know is Joel came passed Chris and I with this look like what the hay are you doing letting this guy get away that easy. The chase was on. Anyway that day Joel became the fast guy on Slumgullion Pass.

Chris I'll try to meet up with you guys, but can't promise that it will happen.
