Hey, Ben... in your audio club, do all members still use gramophones? I loved your theory that a difference in the cables that feed the signal to the speakers will not make any difference in the outcome... i.e. the sound!
Not when you use the $99.00 Wally-World special type of HiFi system... you are right... not with a gramophone either... you are right!

I took it apart and lubricated everything and haven't had an issue in the last 9,000 miles ![]() Here is an easy way to test for this issue: If the throttle plates are synced properly and the cables are returning properly, both plates should contact the stops at the same time when the throttle grip is rotated opened and then released... In a quite garage, with the engine off reach down and hold the left side throttle plate open. Now open and close the throttle grip while listening for the right side to hit against its stop. Repeat this process on the opposite side of the engine. If you cannot hear one side hitting against its stop, you either did not sync them properly, or you have a binding cable. Perform this check every time you disturb the cable routing such as when you remove the side panels, or especially after removing the fuel tank.

Oh and I really like the Twin Max. You can't beat a needle which points straight up when all is well. I mount mine on a bracket which is attached to the fuel door screws.

I am getting all kinds of advice. GREAT! I am pulling the panels and tank in a few weeks to install a Techlusion and check over for vacuum leaks, etc. While I'm there I will also check the cables out to see how things work there. I have the old school sync tubes filled with the nasty mercury.
![]() But, I'm glad for this as there seems to be great debate as to the twin max or standard vacuum gauges. I'm impressed. I'm getting great feedback! Also, some great pointers! |

Thanks, doing well. We had the new Vmax and Anniversary edition Speed Triple out this weekend for an 800 km romp.Nothing like 200 hp and 2nd gear rolling burnouts, lol. The good thing about this place is the the advice one gets for FREE.In a week I've learned I've snookered my nylon cables and there is something better than Seafoam ![]() BTW, my Ducati still has that hiccup that we talked about, oh well?? ![]() |

Looks cool Levert. Actually had a guy show up at the track on one of the new Max' recently.
He was a good sized guy and did ok with it once we dialed in darn near all the rebound on the front (and a lot on the rear) but my scrawny carcass could never have muscled it around at much pace. The guy improved a lot throughout the day and was pretty quick save for one very technical section (double chicane followed by tight left 180 blind up hill) Looked like a lot of fun. Have a new speed triple coming in next week. Going to completely revalve the forks (and maybe the rear) I did one set of forks a while back, but the owner only had the budget to reshim, which is not enough given the tiny port size in the compression leg. Anxious to play with it to see what can be accomplished, as I really like the 1050 S3s. Have fun.

The Speed Triple really has a high speed compression problem.We tried everything on the front and the only way we could get it sort of right was having the Comp at the lowest setting, definitely could use revalving and new springs.
Your right on with the Vmax!! We found out real fast that on any corner you have to hang off and actually pull the bike down and hold it there.We had a K1300S with us as well, too bad we did not do the drag race. ![]() |

Sounds like we're on the same page. I'll try to remember to snap a shot of the stock valves and a typical aftermarket one (will be RT in this case) sideby side. You'll be surprised at the difference in port sizes. It's almost as if triumph sought to have some residual damping even if the shim stack failed. This is why just reshimming a stock valve doesn't necessarily cut it. Sometimes the factory is close, and other times you just scratch your head wondering how a whole team of engineers with data and experience could get it so wrong. I suspect something to do with a whole team of attorneys or marketers. Still, a bike I really like.
