JATO, he already needs a chute just to be legal. A musician and an artist to. You have done a very clean and professional job on that ride. Great lines, symmetry and far improved power. You da man. Wish you lived closer.

Shredder,
Those headers look fantastic. I want one. It seems to be an undated version of what they first brought out. The headers sweep together in front of the motor earlier and I really like the look of them. Cheers |

...shreddr ; as promised... ...a picture of the Dzus fasteners... ...I know ; my brackets looks different from yours, but I also got the stock Ilmberger mounting bracket, and I could use these fasteners on that one also... bracket & fastener from the inside http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...tDzusbout1.jpg and from the outside http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...tDzusbout2.jpg (so ; no fiddling around with a nut and bolt) http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...PEbochten1.jpg ...pan & pipes... http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...PEbochten2.jpg . |

No, just BI-mountable.... |
Ron, your exhaust has the Cat!
I am going to put some kind of quick fasteners on mine as well |
Quote:
...nope ; it hasn't... ...yes, it looks like it has a cat ; but it's totally empty... |
Ron ... it looks good and bling already :D
Hope you find a nice color setup for the spoiler (colgate design !?) and of course again a fine tunings trip to Goes SmileWavy |
got it !!

I modified the stock Ilmberger bracket, in order to use the Dzus fasteners... ...gorgeous piece of carbon fibre !... http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...HPE/carbon.jpg . |

RoLoo - you have a PM :) regarding your "old" bellypan.
Stunning work with the HPE headers and new bellypan. I'm glad you were able to make contact with Nigel at Sandbar. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Best regards, Ian |
Ron, what's the story with the pregnant midpipe. You say it doesn't have a cat, but mine doesn't either, and it doesn't look like yours. Is this the Euro stealth method of making a system look certified while being open? or did the previous owner perform a catalystectomy?
|
Quote:
...'pregnant midpipe'... :D …I kinda like it this way ; it has a stamped ‘E-keur’ in it, so indeed it looks certified… ...I must admit though, the straight non-cat-pipe you have got, give the it a cleaner look… http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t.../metekeur2.jpg ...see ; with a 'E-keur'... ;) (the E1 + number thing) …I had to attach those springs like this ; sadly the Laser pipe doesn’t come with those little hooks… …and I had to use the springs, because the HPE and Laser don’t mix very well together… …there is just a tiny bit too much play, to tighten the Laser properly by only using the exhaust clamp… :( ...that's also the reason why I had to use the centre mounting bracket... ...to give the whole system a bit more stability... . |

Note that db says nothing about composition of exhaust gasses. However, in some countries like Germany, in order for the bike to pass the bi-annual inspection, it also has to pass emissions regulations. Other countries, like Holland don't have such inspection and only require the exhaust to make not anymore noise than the amount the vehicle was approved for (+2db for margin) and do not require a catalyst converter to be present, even if there was one from the factory. So, when you buy a road legal exhaust here, you can separately buy a drop-in catalytic converter, should the country you live in require that. The differences in regulations also provide a nice loophole as you can easily drop in the cat for your inspection and remove it afterwards for a little bit extra power without the law being any wiser. :) |
...TM ; normally HPE has two systems, one, with a cat in the centre pipe like the one I have, and two, a non-cat version, and that one comes with a straight centre pipe, like the one shreddr has...
...somehow, I have the cat. centre pipe without a cat. in it... |
Yes, but the non-cat versions are typically designated as 'race' and not road legal while the cat versions typically have a drop-in cat. Speaking in general, not HPE specific.
|
..so, one could say that I now have a race-legal road going system... :D
|
the next question is whether that bulge actually enhances power. FMF makes pipes for 4-cycle dirt bikes that incorporate a bulge, which they claim enhances HP and reduces dB.

...BTW, Mr. shreddr, this is the modification to the Ilmberger front bracket in order to get those Dzus fasteners properly used...
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...etmodified.jpg ...nothing more ; nothing less... . |
...any more ideas...?
# 1 http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...roodgrijs4.jpg #2 http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...odgrijs1-1.jpg # 3 http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...oodgrijs1a.jpg # 4 http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...roodgrijs2.jpg ...my personal favorite ; # 2... (apart from the blue frame parts... ;) ) ...because it's the original BMW-HP2 design... ...and doesn't give the bike a 'heavy' look... ...if you guys have better ideas ; please let it know... SmileWavy |
I have to go with #1-that's my vote.
|
i woulld agree wth Cageyar, although you will really have the candy cane look going there. how about all red or all silver.
|
I speak as the proud owner of such a candy-cane paint scheme.
I prefer #2. It provides an "arrow-go-fast-while-standing-still" look without adding a lot of weight to the bottom of the bike. A decal may or not be required to break up the expanse of silver under the bike (or pursue option #4 as a second choice). I note you have used decals in the past to add flavor. In my view, the expanse of silver in #2 complements the tail section above. All the others risk taking the candy-cane look to the extreme, IMHO. Notwithstanding the approaching season and its appropriateness thereto.:) If it were mine, I'd start with #2 and progress to #4 if I thought it was absolutely required. Based on what I see, #2 gets the nod. As you were, gentlemen. Ian |
of those..#2
|
I vote #1, but can you raise the silver stripe so it flows better with the seat? Keep the stripe the same width and make the rear silver portion wider.
Cheers |
in the picture of the actual pan you posted it was showing carbon. how about just a silver stripe and keep the rest carbon? now that i look at it, i think you should leave it the way it is. there is too much red on the bike already.
|
I really like #1
As if my vote counts.... I am voting #1 I think it matches the bike best.SmileWavy

I think every one that went on the tour of the HPE shop got the wrong impression of Chuck. I checked a lot of the customer feedback on “another forum” and every one seem really pleased with HPE especially their customer service.I will most likely have HPE install the headers.I will post up again when it is finished.
|
Are you THE Billy Preston... song writer, performer, session man and the only person to play with both the Beatles and Rolling Stones?
George Foreman does the grill... you do cat furniture... it's all good. Welcome to the Board. |
I think you are onto something with the red wheels-that contrast between the red/silver stripes and the stark black wheels never appealed to me. Paint the wheels red, mimic that HP2 format on the pan with a similar script R12S and recover the passenger seat-I can't handle the red main seat and black passenger seat-make them both red or both black. Just MO.
|
I'd probably go for all silver; With the real HP2 pan, #2 looks very good imo, but the ilmberger pan does not have the lines to support that scheme. I don't know, somehow the lines don't seem to really favor the red/silver colors.
|
.
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...odgrijs1-1.jpg http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-H6KROKAR-D.jpg ...I'm pretty much sure, I'll stick to picture # 1... :) ...and with a only few (3) small black decals (as in : 'sponsor' stickers) at the end of the belly pan... ...and 1 small sponsor sticker in this red part of the pan... . |
Did you ever try it with silver wheels? I wonder how that would look?
|
|
its interesting to see the exhaust differences in that last pic. the HP2S unit is a lot tighter to the frame.
|
...yep ; that HP2 rear end could look good on a R12S...

HPE update:
there have been a few comments about how poorly the carbon shroud fits on the HPE muffler, which I agree. I modified the mounting for mine which I think looks better. I relocated the holes about an inch back, which tightens it up to the body work, exposes a little more of the tailpipe and allows me to put the db killers in without removing the license bracket. what do your think. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273845809.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273845826.jpg |
I like it but where do you find these douche bag killers?
