HPE install
A bit of European lovliness showed up the other day, and after figuring how to route the O2 sensor wires, and hook up the pan brackets, I was good to go. It's hard to believe the belly pan bracketry was designed by anybody who actually worked on a motorcycle, because you had to hold a nut from spinning BEHIND THE PAN! anyway I think it looks pretty awesome! I got to get the pan off to the painters!

Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous bike. I'm still not a fan of the 12, but this does send the right vibes. This is how it should have come from the factory.
|
thanks TM, I agree it is the way it should be as a sport bike, but half the fun of owning this bike for me was in the transformation!
|
Looking sweet. My daughter has that same Barbie jeep.:)
|
Hey guys, I've got that exact system for sale! $1000.00 It has less that a 1000 miles on it and is perfect.
|
That is one BEAUTIFUL bike.
|
Looks great Shred. Any difference in Hp with the new pipes?

That is a nice looking header pipe, did you already have the slipon? I thought you had a Hesa belly pan, I am haveing trouble keeping up with the upgrades. :) The bike looks good!! |

I bought the bike with the full Remus installed, and it didn't come with the stocker. I hated the rocket nozzle look of the Remus canister, and didn't like the fact that it didnt even match the space under the seat. it looked like a car exhaust on a motorcycle. I sold the Remus and bought the HPE slip on, which worked fine with the Remus header, and really cleaned up the lines on the rear. I wanted a belly pan, and after deliberating the Schnitzer, Hesa and Ilmberger, went for the Ilmberger which I posted about here. The Ilmberger (gen 1) was a high quality item but really seemed like a bolt on, it didn't match the lines of the bike, it was made to fit the stock exhaust, had a strange flip at the front, it also made the bike look LONG, which I didnt like. I sold the Ilmberger (at a loss of course) and bought the Hesa, which I documented here as well. It had lines more fitting the bike, but now the exhaust headers looked like they were really hanging out there, and the pan looked like a catfish. Once I got wind of the Ilmberger GenII with the new HPE header it was a simple decision. Yeah I sold the Hesa at a loss, but it's only money. I actually think it looks as good as its gonna get. Now I just have to figure out if I want to do anything fancy with the paint, or just do basic black with some stark white die cuts of my favorite racing brands, or maybe nothing and just go for that stealth look. Next up, winter upgrades: head mods, front Ohlins Pro Pilot upgrade, new tires, maybe cams if I can find the right ones, and possibly a custom saddle. It is nearing completion! If I land the corporate gig I am chasing, I will put an SKRR in the garage next to it! Rock on Brothers! SmileWavy |
I think you might need some JATO bottles too shreddr.
|
The bike looks great! But I think, considering the exotic look you're moving toward, I would paint the frame and body red. Just my 2 pennies.
With all the money you have tied up in her I would want her to scream exotic instead of just whispering it. ;) |
Nice job Shreddr....
As always it is fun to read and see your post. Beautiful bike, beautiful headers and I like the belly pan from most angles, it does make the bike look long, but more like a racer.:D
You sure you can handle her with all the upgrades..... JK;) |
Nah, Motorsports colors!

There is only one "red" bike and we know what that is, so that option is out. I like the bike like this because people do a double take when they see it. At first its like "black sport bike" and then all of a sudden you see these looks like "what the hell is that?" most bikers have never seen one of these things. I have been told many times by riders and bystanders that they didn't know BMW made bikes like this. I like that.... |

Bling-y !!
... just go w/ black, stealth paint on the pan. Or, on second thought, keep it carbon, and add a carbon front fender. The top half of the bike would be high gloss black paint, the bottom half, full of the carbon weave. Nice one, man. |

HPE Install
Shredder,
Your bike looks great!!! I was wondering do you have to remove the headers to get to the oil filter? Brandon |
Is that the little house that you sleep in now that the wife has booted you out for all the time and $$'s spent on the R12SS.:D

I think this combo of pipe and pan is just what the R12S needed to make it look "sport" |
Having ridden with shreddr several times, and my Akra having a nice mellow tone without baffles, shred's bike is loud-good loud sounding raunchy good, but......loud!! Way louder than the Akra. Like a sport bike should sound...........SmileWavy

...my pan comes with these kind of (link) Dzus fasteners for the front... ;) . |
RoLoo, are the Dzuzu'z welded in place? I dont have the room to slip one of those things in place, unless it has a real deep channel. The one you show doesn't.
I got to ride with the full HPE today, and it feels strong, just like it did with the Remus/HPE combo. It does seem to be a bit louder, and I don't want to draw any unwanted attention. If I rode with a bunch of other bikers with it this loud I might be called a FAG, which should be reserved for HD riders only. :D I may try the DB killers, but they are HP killers as well. I will bring them with me to the dyno run and quantify the effect. |

i forgot to show the pic of the super cool stingers that came with the HPE exhaust. It gives the bike that awesome retro euro 2 stroke look! :p

Wow, I haven't seen such cool exhaust since I watched Flash Gordon when I was a kid:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1257885045.jpg I wonder if you can reach the planet Ming with those?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/161.gif |
shreddr, please tell me you're pulling KGB, I mean cageyar's right leg.
|
I hope those "stingers" are inside out, and should otherwise be completely internal, with the tubes pointing into the silencer, and toward the front of the bike. :D
I really like the looks and the internet audio clips of the HPE setup. Those things are straight weird. :D BTW, DZUS type fasteners make a lot of sense for a belly-pan setup, especially if one has to remove it frequently for service. This quick google result seems to have lots of stuff... d-handle or allen head quarter turn fasteners, captive washers to keep the fasteners retained to the panel, clip-on or rivet on receivers, aluminum, stainless, titanium... all sorts. No experience with them, as I said, just a quick google result, but seeing them shows how they work. :D http://www.racebolts.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=723 |
