Christmas Arrived Early

It looks like Christmas arrived early yesterday. After waiting a month my wheels were finally shipped on November 30 and I had them December 4 all the way from South Africa.

Here are some photo's............they sure are nice......

Here are the weights...........I will do a comparison once I get my new tires....

Front;

Rear;

And since I run Alth rotors........I needed the optional front rotor carriers.......here is a comparison..........can you see the differences?

Now I just need to wait for my tires to arrive and another type of adapter for my wheel balancer so I can balance the rear wheel.

Cheers

Awesome. It would be great if you would be willing to share the price and contact information from whom you bought these from.

when you DO get them mounted up, take it a little easy the first few rides.
they make the bike do some things very differently.
it's a pleasant struggle.
i think my cf wheels are about three years old. they've been slammed around pretty hard, but they're still doing fine. in this short video shot after a typical socal rain, the final clip shows the bike hitting a concrete bridge lip, at an angle and at speed. it survived fine. the bike behind it (carlton or shannon, can't remember) didn't get away as easily.

also, get the right guy to balance them. makes a big difference. they can be picky.

before you mount them, put two or three coats of good quality wax on them.
figure on re-waxing every few months. it's good preventative maintenance.

Thanks for the tips Brad;
I am sure the bike will feel quite different as I have installed an RT A-arm also.....it's too bad it will not be ridden until April.

I paid $3100 and ordered from Peter @;

PeterG@tfi.co.za

He is extremely good to deal with......once he received the funds...I had the wheels in 4 days.

Cheers

In the US, Motowheels is the official BST distributor for non-drag racing applications. They are located just outside Sacramento, CA. I ordered mine through them and they were reliable in meeting my expectations:

Motowheels-Motorcycle Performance Products for Ducati, MV Agusta, Aprilia, KTM - Rancho Cordova - Sacramento

That would be me..........I emailed Marc Parnes to see if he could come up with some cones for the rear wheel as the adapter for the BMW wheel will not fit.

it's how we celebrate rain in socal.
boulders are thrown down mountains, trees are uprooted and tossed on the road, and in some cases, the jubilation gets out of hand and a whole road gets wiped out by over-enthusiastic revelers.

we're starting up again today, with the peak coming on thursday. more boulders will have been thrown and trees tossed than we've seen in years around here.

Wow, good luck! We also get our share of the bad stuff too.

Be safe,

Congrats! In a few rides, you won't believe the change to the bike.

I love mine, and not because of what they look like, but how they feel.

Here is a bit of an update as I have finally got the BST wheels mounted.

As with most aftermarket parts, nothing is a simple bolt on.

I first had to grind down my 3/8 T-50 Torx to fit into the BST wheel as the socket has to go into a long tube on the rear wheel.

The front wheel came with 2 pairs of rotor carriers to allow different outward spacing of the rotors. After a bit of trial and error.......mostly error....I settled on the BST part #21002-7000-19-010A rotor carrier. This carrier placed both rotors closer to the center of the wheel so the rotors would not touch the calipers and the Alth ABS tone ring would not hit the fork.

I also had to contact Marc Parnes who's wheel balancer I have. Since his BMW R1200 adaptor does not fit the BST wheels, Marc made me a pair of cones to fit the axle of the wheel balancer and be able to fit into the BST wheel.

Like so.............

[img]http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads16
/BST+wheels+0241260991490.jpg[/img]

Here is the wheel on the balancer..........

I was impressed with how the BST wheels and Michelin Pilot Road 2's only took 3/4 ounce on the rear and 1/8 ounce on the front.

But the most impressive part is the weight differences:

Both wheels were weighed with new tires and the fronts had BMW rotors on the BMW wheels and the Alth rotors on the BST wheels.

Front had a difference of 1.740 grams or 3.83Lbs less for the BST's

Rear had a difference of 1.860 grams or 4.1Lbs less for the BST's

Total difference is 2.990 grams or 6.59Lbs for the BST's.

6.5 pounds of rotating mass is a huge difference.

Here is the bike with the new wheels.........

Cheers

Very nice...

I'm also thinking of doing exactly this to my all black. Is that $3100 delivered, as it seems shipping from SA is around $250 or so.

It was $3100 delivered with both disc carriers. The extra carriers added $50 to the bill. I would recommend getting them and that will allow you to run whatever rotors you like.

There is a pair on E-bay right now, but I do not know who is selling them.
If you need any more info.......shoot me a pm.
Cheers
