R1200S fit on R1100S?

Hi All, Was at Motoghost (local bmw-only service shop). I mentioned something about the 1150 jugs fitting on my Replika and he asked why not the r1200...and went on to say the entire r1200 top end fits.
What's the dirt on this, aside from finding a spare 1200 motor laying around? He billed it as "if you like the power you have now, you would really like this."
Later and Happy Holidays, BB

time to get a new mechanic. regardless of all the unlikeliness of the R1200S top end even matching up or fitting, there is the obvious fact that the strokes aren't the same. your mechanic must be a tool.

Shreddr is correct. San Jose BMW has a 1150 kit that works well on the 1100's

Maybe the mech was referring to the r1200c motor? Don't know much about it other than the 1170cc vs 1085 for the 1100S.

Pretty sure something is being left out. Omar knows his $hit. I trust him over any dealer.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not sure how I got off-cue... he even showed me the slightly different heads and the hex-head covers. Will have to re-inquire. So...Rick, you've had good results with Omar? He's kindof on the other side of the earth from me...that being said, he's much closer than where I bought it (Tucson).

I left him my GS for a month when I went to China last year because he wanted to play with it. He did some stuff to it at no charge. The only jobs I've really paid him for were to adjust my GS's rocker end play, which he let me watch so I could DIY it next time and tire install on my S. He's trying to increase his tires and accessories orders to keep his dealer status for whatever distributor he's signed up with. So he has occasional scorching deals on stuff. My S is still under warranty and I DIY all maint. But he's a great resource and lets me hang around the shop, so he's great in my book. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my bike, especially the dealer. And he's very close to where I live.

You're lucky to have a quality mechanic so close. I would make sure I spent some money with him so he would be there when you need him.
I do almost all my own maintenance but that's because the closest dealer is over 200 miles away and the only local independent shop that specializes in European bikes closed down and went to work as a longshoreman for the insurance benefits.
Suggest he put a post in the For Sale section with some great prices on tires for Pelican members and maybe some of us can help keep him open.

I'll send him a link. He definitely knows about Pelican. I think he's still in the middle of getting his new shop all set up. He was home-based before, but got some commercial space last summer and just had his open house a few weeks ago. He has quite a local following.

He was at 7th ave and 101 before right? Where's the new shop? I knew him from hanging at c4 but ran into him for the first time in years buying parts at GoAZ.

All I know is the R1200C was out at the same time as the r1100's and was probably the same engine design with more displacement. This motor is not the same as the current 1200's.

If Omar said it, I would believe it.... Unless you just misunderstood

He's a mile away from his old shop. Now he's at Deer Valley and Central Ave. He's a Touratech and Remus auth. dist. now too. I forget who else he's signed up with, but there's not much he can't get you a deal on.

the R1200C has the same bore and stroke (and about half the power) as the R1200S, so thats not gonna work either. your mechanic must have been dipping into the christmas spirits. the only real bigger displacement option is the 1150 kit SJBMW sells. for the same money you can get the Wossner long rod/high comp piston kit which would probably be a better over all option

Shreddr, I'll have to check, but I believe an independent BMW mechanic took the jugs from an R1200C and put them on an 1100 rockster. Used the same heads that came with the 1100 rockster, but not sure what he did for pistons and rods. I'll try and find out.

that i can believe, but that is custom all the way. maybe something an expert machinist/BMW R-bike enthusiast might be able to accomplish, but certainly no straight up swap, and not cheap. one-off pistons are kind of expensive, plus you gotta know what you need as far as valve pockets, wrist pin location. very complicated project.

The R1150 jugs have to be machined to fit the r1100s case, it costs around $ 150.00 to have done! if you have any questions e-mail me off line!

You don't want to pull the jugs off and stick old underwear over the holes and wait for months trying to figure out what to do next!

Jerry, didn't that mechanic from Florida that was at GMR do that or did he just convert it from injection to flat slides.

I know that Crunch (Andy) has the SJBMW 1150 jugs on his bike.

Well...he's going to be calling me on a starter (OEM starter installed for about $200 less than the dealers I'd used in the past), so I'll see what I missed. Thanks Rick , BumbleB. EZ, yeah when I had my old Z1 I remember twinking and hoping on varous engine mods while the motor was button up with the dreaded "red shop rag." I can ride them ok...I'm just not that much of a mechanic.
My most recent servicing mastery was replacing the front & rear pads and the rear rotor...surely even I should be able to handle that! Well, so I'm riding down Country Club road the next day when I seem to be encountering a bunch of rain grooves, as the bike is wiggling her head. But I don't see any and I know from living here for the past 20+ years, there aren't any. About then, the amplitude of the wiggles is increasing! So I manage to pull over and...well, to my chagrin...I had spent so much time torquing the rotor...I forgot to tighten the rear wheel bolts. What a moron. Sorry, its sad but true (good thing it didn't let loose during a particulary tasteful wheelie earlier in the day. ) O well...Later, BB
