+1 ...and I would add no whining to Roger either. After all this is the Big Boy sandbox.

My Contribution. Craig, different than what I sent you.
  • Don't dominate a thread. Say what you have to say and back off. There is no need to post the same thought 20 different ways in a thread that is 30 responses long, and you are 2/3 of the content. You can cook an egg 50 different ways but it's still an egg.
  • Threads come in varying degrees of quality. High, medium, low, etc. Do not treat high quality threads, or threads that the OP has put significant time and effort into, the same as the lower level communicational, Friday night beer drinking threads. Use them with some respect. Don't fill up with meaningless chit chat because you are bored, or lonely. The OP has probably put many hours into presenting something for the benefit of all. Peppering it throughout with flippant, unrelated content, or blather is a fast way to ensure you will never see another one again from that contributor. Some are like baby sea turtles and the seagulls are coming to get them.
  • If the OP of a thread states certain ground rules up front, respect those rules. Showing disrespect for those ground rules presents you to the other board members as a troublemaker, someone who has no respect for others that are complying, or just someone that's hard to deal with.
  • Don't be afraid to delete posts. Everyone says something they regret. Minimize the damage. Deletion is a great feature of this board. Especially when posting under the influence.
  • Try and become attuned to what is being said, both by the overall tone of the thread and also the poster you are most directly affecting. Rather than "ready fire aim."
  • Remember that NO ONE thinks they ever do anything wrong. LOL.
  • There are certain board members with differing reputations, but not all are equal. A few terrify me when I see them start posting in a good thread because they will cheapen it or completely dismantle it. Know yourself as others see you.
  • Finally, don't be afraid to start a new thread for a ride report or other topic rather than burying your thought forever within a different thread. In other words, contribute something new.
  • And this is only my opinion, but there is a certain level/standard this board should operate at. To that extent all of us are responsible through self-policing to try and maintain that standard. The sole moderator cannot do it on his own. Without a standard, the board tailspins downward. When anything goes, anything goes. That was why BMW Forums was formed several years ago.

I'll try & keep this civil, Harold. You have referred to me before as a board policeman. I am no ones keeper, never have been. I started this thread, not as an apology to anyone, but as a follow-up to to ckcarr's thread asking you to cease & desist your endless palavering. I don't post that much, because I don't know that much about motorcycles & prefer to read what other knowledgeable people have to say. It is you who have called for people & threads to be banned, never me. I also remember when you called for Roger to be booted as moderator. Fact is, you opine on everything, repeat second hand knowledge as if it were your own and generally make inane, inaccurate or ignorant posts to almost every thread. You should feel ashamed, but instead you become more puffed up.

I think the filter for dirty words should be remove.
We should be able to say **** ,****, etc without any censorship.
This is a motorcycle forum not a nun congregation.

Except it is free, and contained inside a place of business that is accessable to all, and read by far more people than you realize. So I don't agree with you here. Another argument that spawned the bmwforums site...

What swear words do you need to use to express yourself where proper english will do?

I don't need a full repertory. I'll be happy just with access to the ones I use everyday, **** and **** (the first one is about procreation and the second about an activity that takes place in the bathroom)

In advrider.com you can curse and it doesn't seem to be a problem to the web site.

You don't understand what Pelican Parts is?

ADV is not a business. Baldy runs it as a hobby.

http://www.advrider.com/Donate/Donate.html

Suppose you run a business selling light fixtures and have a web site. Then you put a forum for electricians to discuss things with each other on your web site. Then some plumbers want a forum. You don't sell plumbing supplies but you are a nice guy so you create a page for them to discuss plumbing.

Why should these plumbers dictate what will go on in the forum?

Do you get it now?

I can put it in your language. If I was running a business, I would not want some ****ing **** head telling me what I allow on my web site.

This thread got funny all of a sudden, Rob. It must be because I'm at the Vintage show at Barber and having such a good time staying at the Quality Inn where they're Committed to My Satisfaction. (Could that mean girls? I wonder.)

I didn't just make a self-aggrandizing off-topic post, did I? Hope not.
