A few quick answers:

1. Yes, this was designed and installed by RB Racing, the gifted but eccentric engineer Bob Behn.

2. Yes, he had the bike for over 5 years.

3. Bike runs normally up to about 4500RPM, and then things start to happen.

4. An intercooler as well as a water injection system is installed.

5. Large LED gauge on the dash displays left and right exhaust temp, and system pressure in BAR.
This web page will explain more details:

http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/bmwR1100.html

6. Has not been dyno'ed but seat of the pants HP is 130-135 at 5K RPM, 7 lbs. of boost. No water injection is required at that pressure.

7. No, given the choice I would not do it again.

You're not the first and not the only (some Swedish guy did one with 180 hp at 8 psi and max 240 hp if I recall correctly), but this is ubergeil. I am jealous.

Gotta wonder how much boost a boxer can take...are the pistons forged? What are stock internals like?

Sweet!!! I'm next as soon as I get out of poverty but I will do all the work on my own. I'm planning 14.7 lbs of boost with 9:1 compression ratio and no H2O injection, just the oil. It should be pushing 160 hp @ the wheel with such set up.

"Gifted but eccentric....."

Before I bought the 11s I researched by looking at lots of sites. Kept coming across the RB racing site. I did wonder if all BMW people were like the the bloke who runs this company. Pretty interesting section where he rants and raves about anyone walk into his workshop. Never mentions how he takes 5 years to complete a job though.

It's my understanding that turbos don't work well on twins, particularly OHVs (which might explain the 5 years of development on this R11).

We had an old Mr Turbo setup on a late 70s R100RS and it wasn't impressive. (We also had a setup hanging on the shop wall for a number of years).

There was a Mr. Turbo setup on a Norton in the early 80s but it didn't work well, either. (Supercharger was a better option but Nortons have comparatively weak bottom ends, even for Nitrous.)

Sorry but the R11S is a donkey no matter how much air you force feed it.
That's probably not “politically correct” around here but so be it.

I would not quite agree to this Owen. We have a little anual event (hosted by some local tuning shop specialised in the oilheads) called days of thunder. Around 300 aficionados meet to get their bikes dynoed and do the usual "fuel talks".

There are quite a few R1100S bikes ranging between 125-130 HP (non turbocharged). Some R1200S bikes here have around 135-140 HP and the HP2 has been brought to almost 160 HP ...

Best regards
Oliver

What do you do about the excessive weight, ordinary brakes and suspension?
The R12S is a MUCH better starting point as a sports bike and even its heavily compromised. Then there are is the issues of poor throttle response, restricted rev range and drive train free play which I don't believe are better on the R11s than on the R12's that I have owned.

Why does this thread seem so cryptic to me?

Motoman,
Is this your bike?
Did you give them money and a bike five years ago that they have been working on?
If it is yours did you do the above, or just buy from the RB racing guys this year?
Why is your license plate whited out?

I'd have to wonder about longevity, not that it really matters for fun projects. If you like this stuff. Good for car shows and things like that. I have a friend in town that had a turbo professionally installed on his Harley this year. It's blown up three times so far.
