My "new" 04' boxercup...recommended xtras?

I have long been a bmw r1100s fan, but have yet to own one, I pulled the trigger this this year, saved up for one, and finally bought one. I almost bought one from a member of this forum, but amazingly he crashed it while it was being demo'd to me!

The same day I called up my backup and bought it on the spot...well the spot being a few states away. As we speak it's being shipped by JC Motors (recommended by forum members - that's why I chose them) to San Diego from Seattle.
($7200 with 6200k miles and not a scratch on her. JC Motors charged me $600 to ship from Seattle to San Diego)

I attached some photos, but I have some questions.

need some advice on extras...

Before my bike arrives I want to pick up some essentials so that I"m ready. so your experience will give me some advice as to what I want to get....
It was sold with r1100s black saddle bags but everything else was stock.

I saw this posting:
FS 2004 Boxercup

I'm hoping to see items such as:

1) AN OEM seat
2) a cover that can fit the bike with saddle bags for when I park it in my "california garage"/underground car park
3) a tank bag
4) do I need anything else minor e.g. to keep it protected or recommend gear like GPS/Iphone/Helmet Walkie-Talkie extras and mounting gear?

Thanks,
Stephan

Yes, Give me the mirrors that should have been on the 05. I actually have a set I am redoing and painting. I hate the lolly pops. Well on this bike at least. Congrads on the new ride. Now sure how the seat was in 04 but a pain in 05. It went the way of a new Sergeant seat, cat eliminator, dobeck fuel management module and some bits.

Thanks! I'm also pretty new to the forums...so looking forward to taking part! Probably learning more than I can contribute at present moment.

I don't want to replace any parts yet (except maybe for the seat) just looking for extra, like cover, bags, nav/communication gear, extras that are either a necessity (like a cover - I need a recommendation) or just have made the practical aspect of riding daily even more pleasurable.

OK so From what I've seen so far on this forum and various others
my two MAIN choices are:

http://www.corbin.com/bmw/r1100smug.shtml corbin smuggler BMW R1100s Seat (http://www.corbin.com/bmw/r1100s.shtml)

http://www.motostrano.com/bmwr1100sseat.html motostrano sargent BMW R1100s Seat

I'll read a bit more to see which might be a better choice, shreddr unrelated but that passenger cover is custom painted...who did that?

any recommendations for the other extras? most importantly cover for the bike with saddle bags, and tank bag
but also less importantly gps/mount, radar detector, walkie talkies, etc.

FYI, the Corbin Smuggler has been discontinued, unfortunately. While most people complain that the Corbins are too heavy, the Smuggler was a worthwhile addition IMHO, just for the cool factor and a bit of storage. Now you have to keep your eyes open for a used one should you decide to go that way.

I went with the Sargent on my BCR and have zero complaints, a nice improvement over the stock nut crusher...

Congrats on the new bike, Stephan!

Your bike already has the OEM seat. Why not see if it works for you before getting another one? Also- seat comfort is subjective. Maybe sit on some other seats on other bikes in your vicinity. All the seats are interchangeable from 2002 (?) on- you could swap for a while with someone else's. Maybe buy a seat used so you don't lose much if you need to resell it. The Smuggler won't allow for a passenger, but other Corbins do, and in fact they offer a passenger backrest which is pretty cool. Rick Meyer makes a custom seat, and there's other good brands as well.

Check out the GEZA Stretch Form-Fit Motorcycle Covers - Portable, TOWABLE, Daily Use covers.

Stephan, also consider having Sargent modify your seat to custom fit your needs, They rebuilt/recovered a Wunderlich seat for me and added their superfoam, killer comfortable at less than 1/2 the price of new.

OK so I'm all set with understanding my options for seats.

can you folks advise on the other xtras I was thinking about?

2) a cover that can fit the bike with saddle bags for when I park it in my "california garage"/underground car park

3) a tank bag

4) do I need anything else minor e.g. to keep it protected or recommend gear like GPS/Iphone/Helmet Walkie-Talkie extras and mounting gear?

..oh and the seat I bought on the bike is stock, not OEM. You might have been looking at shreddr's photo.

the stock seat has worked fine on my BCR for 50k miles, "but every butt" is different. you might try some tank pads so you have something to grip with your knees. keeps ya from sliding around.

the stock bmw "egg bag" seems to work fairly well.
generic covers are available for bikes with saddlebags, though it's easier just to pop them off.
not much chance of it getting stolen, so an alarm probably isn't necessary.
gps is nice to have, but printed maps don't need batteries. there are great Ram mount setups that you can purchase.

assuming tires and other important bits are good, i'd then put some money into at least one track day...then save up for better suspension. after that...upgrade the braking system.

of course...you DO already have all the correct riding gear, right? i'd put that on the list before i even invested in a tank of fuel.

congrats on the new bike. both Ralf and i live in your area, so if you need something...

without the bags on, the sportbike geza cover works perfectly.
had mine since inception, only the elastic (like the egg bag) is showing signs of senility.

so the egg bag is def something I'm now considering, I've spent the last week lurking across threads and photos trying to find other options too. the egg is pretty sleek looking. and seems to do the job well.

as for the cover I visited the geza site, and I am looking for a cover that covers the entire bike....I live in San Diego, I have a Car park garage, which is streeet level, semi-covered, it has some windows facing the outside, and being about 1 mile form the ocean, I want to make sure it's protected from the ocean air as much as possible. so being stolen is less of a worry than making sure it's protected from the ocean air.

as for track riding, I've never been, I have the same gear I've used for the 12years I've been riding, a joe rocket jacket, and gloves. I'm sure I need to upgrade my riding gear soon too, all leathers for longer rides. I'll lurk on other threads to get some recommendations on that.

so covers that cover the entire bike, does geza make one? I didn't see one, I just saw these semi top covers, very sporty, but didn't seem to be what I was looking for. I don't mind taking off the saddles, I have a storage closet next to wear I partk the bike, but I'd like to option to keep them on too, if possible

BMW used to make a cover that fit the r1100s. I have one I bought back in 2000. They are very durable and heat resistant. So you can put it on when the bike is still warm. It also had a couple holes in the bottom that a locking cable could go through to keep prying people out.

You might poke around in the online stores like A&S, Sierra, San Jose, or Santa Cruz..

You might want to look around anyway as I don't think they are making a lot of the accessories anymore and if you find something you waant, you should buy it.
