Geting rid of beep beep horn

I have a question if anybody can help me. I ordered one of those Freeway Blaster horns, 132DB jobs. My question is has anybody put one on a R1100s? The instruction that came with it pretty much suck. When reading what they did give it said most BIG bikes have a relay that might work and all SMALL bikes don't. Can anybody help or give me some good info on installing this.

Thanks BARRY

Stuff

The 1100s is a big bike. It's a full sized highway speed bike not a 250 with a stator charger (spelling). The relay should be fine. I would ASSUME you would blow a fuse before the relay would burn out and if you're still worried about it buy an extra relay just in case you do blow it. Or you could buy a generic relay and rewire it.... but that's not fun.

I hooked up seven horns on my old Civic and placed a wire jumper on the horn fuse to handle the current. I just couldn't blow it too long or the wires would probably melt.... you don't want to do that dumb s hit to your bike though...

And somebody correct me if I'm wrong about the 1100 but I know on other bmw's they share similar relays with the bmw cars. And for that matter is there a horn relay on your bike at all? None of this is probably helpful...damn.

Use the SEARCH function, there are plenty of threads on this subject. Here is a starter thread to get you started. Many have made a switch: it's easy.

If you are looking for a horn that can be heard on the freeway, get a Stebel. If you do a search as Gotroads? stated in hi post you'll have all the "Big Bike" horn you can stand to be around. I've had it on three bikes now with 3 "beep-beep" horns on the shelf.

This will give you a report on the Stebel. Stebel Compact Nautilus Install on R1100s New horn

Don't think I've ever had to toot my horn, except at an inspection.

Avoidance and running in a bubble works better for me.

Same here, as far as avoidance, but my strebel has been an audio "FU/what were you thinking" after the fact.

And my oversized tankbag has a tendency to blow the horn to alert everyone I missed my turn again and am doing a U turn.

Richard, I credit mine with two saves from mindless SUV drivers just drifting over into my bubble as I go around them on the Interstate. I use it sometimes to bring them back into focus as they text going down the highway.

I would argue that if you are spending those split seconds trying to honk the horn rather than full on aggressive avoidance then the accident wasn't that close.

Horns are for after the fact. A horn and

Actuall ck, they both happen at the same time. It seems that when I'm getting the crap scared out of me, the button gets hit by reflex as I maneuver away. I think they call it multi-tasking.

Go to Jamaica, Mexico and Italy in the cities and it is a honk fest! They use horns so much, usually when standing still, its kind of funny.

When merging it is a posturing thing, my balls are bigger than yours!
When people are blocking your path on a narrow street, its a "whatts ammata you"
When the light is green for 1/2 second and no one moves it's a pay attention stupid, this IS a drag race!

Head out west and horn honking is almost unheard of. The west is very polite. In Denver you will rarely hear a horn honked. Must be a regional thing.

I had a situation once where an old lady almost mowed me down while I was on my Honda GL1500. Had it not been for the blast of the horn, she'd have nailed me. I too am going to up grade the horn on my S.

Yeah, right. There's just very few people to honk at to begin with and the deer seem to be deaf.

So the guy buys a horn and asks how to install it. In reply he is told to get a different horn, and horns don't matter anyway, or horn's can save your bacon, with national character comparisons. Only one post with a link that might be helpful. I guess the winter muck-racking has already started.

You mean these?

I'm not sure anyone has installed these. Most have gone with the Stebel. If this is what you bought

a lead should go to the horns + side from the relay, the horn lead (existing plug to beep-beep horn. can be used to power the relay closed to actuate the horns, the relayed power come from a direct lead to the + side of the battery (this should have a inline fuse. Get the required grounds from the frame.
