Colorado Color Changing Cycling Celebration

Not a real event - but it should be.

Check out these two videos I posted to YouTube from last weekend's awesome riding:

Fall 2011 on Trail 401 - YouTube

Wieber Family Durango Ride - YouTube

Really liked that first video Garrett. Beautiful countryside, beautiful colors... and of course, your beautiful wife!!!

Is that area easily accessible? My beautiful wife is not as athletic as yours, but I think she would like most of the trail shown in your video.

That first trail (401) is right off Schofield Pass Road - this time of the year you can drive right to the trailhead. There are a few miles of steep (but very smooth) single track up to the summit. Then it's just an easy coast all the way down with one section you have to dismount and rock scramble (as seen in the video).

This year we parked at Rustler Gulch and rode the road up to the trailhead so that when we came down we coasted right to the car. The lower half of 401 (down to Gothic) has a lot of climbing and can be very muddy. Our shorter loop was only about 10 miles but there is 1400' of climbing.

Some explanations for the odd filming of the second video. I broke the chest mount a mile into the ride and had to take out some of the parts (articulating arm) so all the footage after that I'm aiming the camera by hand. I wish I could have filmed how gnarly parts of Dutch Creek were but I needed both hands to hold on..hold on..hold on.

Oh and at the first I think my Camelbak hose was sprinkling the camera lens - hense the psychedelic haze.

I have ridden my R1100S past gothic.. to the place where you are filming at the 30 second mark of the video. Do you park your car at Gothic?

I parked right off the road at Rustler Gulch (a few miles past Gothic where a road takes off to the right and goes through a stream crossing) but you can park up at the top of the pass too where the trail starts. But then you'd have to ride back up there afterward. The trailhead is just right around the corner - maybe a 5 minute ride - from the :30 mark.

Crystal and I rode up to that point during the last TOR and the road was still closed - snowed in.
