Alternative mirror solution...

Previous posts discussed the mirrors of the R11S; most said they were efficient, but not necessarily attractive. Solutions varied to bar end mirrors to lower fairing mounted. The one ever present issue were the holes left at the point of attachment if you moved the mirrors.

I replaced my mirrors with an "almost direct bolt on" alternative. I like the look better; not so long and spindly; about 4 inches shorter. They are also very stable without vibration issues. Some may find them not as efficient as the original, but I don't use the mirrors as the final answer anyway.

These are Suzuki GSXR 750-1000 series mirrors. Non-Suzuki parts are only $20 each. Installation requires drilling one additional hole in the aluminum mounting plate to match the R11S's mounts. Even the rubber boots fit the S quite nicely. See what you think.

Looks like a clean installation.

Personally, I think BMW's industrial-look mirrors are one of the bike's better features compared to the stuff on Japanese bikes. They pivot and swivel more smoothly also. "Spindly" is what gets you enough width to see something besides your elbows. In useful vision, they're a cut above any mirrors I've had on several different Japanese sport bikes, although still not nearly as nice as the integrated-into-the-bodywork, below-the-elbow, lower-down mirrors on my old ST1100 which were simply superb.

So, this wouldn't be a looks vs. function tradeoff I would make, but your opinion is all that counts.
