Back in the fold

I had a 99 black SA from new and with guidance from this forum over a couple of years, added Corbin, Ohlins, Vanderlinde, FIM chip,Induct, Power filter, HID lights and probably some stuff I don't remember. Had some great trips including down Baja and across the country with about half the usage being 2 up. Wife wanted a bit more comfort so added an 1150 RT to the garage. When the missus decided she would rather go on trips in the sports car I sold the RT. As luck would have it a trip to France on our own bikes came up and a snap decision was made to trade the S on a new K1300GT. Terrific bike actually but I always regretted trading the S. Kind of scanned the used adverts every once in awhile but nothing really grabbed me until last weekend when a black 99 S with very similar upgrades to mine was on Craigslist. Spoke to the owner on the phone, went to see it the next day and rode it home. What a great day! So far what I've found (owner was #2) Corbin, Ohlins, Remus, 5.5 wheel, shorter torque arm, Power Filter,What looks like a wider "mouth" on the air intake, steering damper (don't remember that before). Sadly I've given away the Ohlins setup I had so will start from scratch. Anyhow, fun times here. I may have other bikes but this one looks like the keeper

Welcome back .

I went through a similar history as you with a '99 Mandarin R1100S without ABS. Wrist injury had me trade it in on a R1150RT and I tried the heavier touring ingredient to my riding. That bike bored me to tears. Got a GSA next which I still have. As I aged and healed in the meantime, the R1100S started calling to me again, especially as I started thinking of a bike to recommend for my son who started on a Kawa Ninja 650R (twin cylinder). I got a '04 with ABS and bar backs and absolutely love it now that I can ride it without pain. Just upgraded all the brake lines to Speiglers last weekd. It's a classic in my book at this point, and a fine example of what the boxers are all about. Enjoy it in good health.

(snipped)... I might start another thread rather than pollute yours with my "bookend" pics...

Happy days (and riding) to you on your newly acquired S-bike!

That's one of the prettiest black 11S's I've seen in a while. Very nice. How many miles?

It is in great shape alright. I bought it from the second owner who worked in a BMW independent shop. He had owned it for a year. The original owner apparently has quite a few bikes all maintained in a similar state. Bike actually has about 35,000miles on it but lived all its non riding life indoors. The guy I bought it from was surprised that I would pick it up rain or shine as he didn't want it "in the elements" Luckily it was sunny for the first ride! Had my little buddy help with some cleanup when I got it home.
