my recently acquired bike is a new fixture on my street, so the neighborhood dogs have taken to marking it with their piss. they love to piss on my front wheel and on my bike cover, and their bastard owners are obviously doing nothing to stop them.
what i can do to ward off these damn mongrels? i know there is such a thing as doggie mace, but i think that's a bit extreme. does anyone know if there is some natural scent that dogs are repelled by? |

type "animal repeller" into google.com and you'll get a host of choices.
I personally wanna try this one: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/atrendyhome/scarwatspray.html |

Two suggestions:
1) Return the favor by urinating on the owners whilst the dogs are marking their territory. This requires you to be fast on the draw, and willing to take a few punches. 2) Alternatively, purchase a portable air horn (like those used on small boats). Next time you catch a dog mid-stream, charge out blasting the air horn. This will scare the living ***** out of the dog, who will probably never mark your bike again. I can't vouch for the effectiveness of #1 (never having tried this myself), but #2 works well for driving off stray dogs and black bears. Of couse, I doubt you have a problem with black bears marking their territory on your bike or cover...

i'd love to deal with the owners
but i'm never around when it happens. i live in an apartment in Hong Kong where parking is scarce so i have to park on the street. i'm too cheap to fork out US $300/month to park my bike. whenever i go for a ride i always find a spots on the cover and a puddle by the front wheel. it really pisses me off.

This should work too
:1) Park your front wheel in an indentation in the road 2) Fill the indentation with water to create a large diameter puddle, but to a level lower than the rim of your wheel and make sure water doesn't reach the kickstand/centerstand 3) Run a wire from the positive terminal of your battery into the puddle being careful not to touch the bike at the same time 4) Install digital camera aimed toward front wheel and triggered by battery voltage drop 5) Post photos for us to enjoy ![]() (disclaimer: do not try this at home without a qualified electrician and lawyer) Last edited by dsl; 07-18-2002 at 07:59 AM.. |

I once had the same problem. Bike parked in front of my house with bike cover.
Dogs pissed on it. Stinky stinky. Next day also. Baah. Continued a while. Shouting at the owner did not help so I followed the f#cker to his house. That night me and a couple of friends pissed on his door BIG TIME! Pissing dogs suddenly pissed elsewhere!

If you do catch the dog, wire-brush its arsehole, then add kero-it'll never come back.Maybe find a rat trap, put some doggy bikkies in it, and use it as a deterant.

Yo Fredman. I think you're missing the point of the thread. Doggies DON'T piss from their arsehole. Maybe you have more revealing news?
hehe

Some funny replies, but none particularly good at solving the problem of dogs pissing on your bike while you're off at the office or asleep.
My guess is that these dogs are being walked on a leash - so that the owner, or amah, just lets them do it? (Haven't seen too many strays wondering the streets in HK) If so, I would write a note and attach it to the bike cover or bike, as the case may be, saying "DO NOT ALLOW YOUR ANIMAL TO URINATE ON MY PROPERTY - THANK YOU. IF YOU DO, I WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST YOU" or something like that. My guess is that would be sufficient to scare a Phillipina away from your spot, and also notify the pet owners that you actually care about the problem. If that doesn't work, tell your amah (or hire another one) to spy on the bike and catch the perpetrator in the act. Asians generally don't want to be confronted, especially by an irate motorcycle owner. If you let them know that will happen if the problem persists, it probably won't.

Asian neighbours in my street leave clear plastic drink bottles full of water in strategic places on their front lawn , apparently to deter dogs and cats from deficating on the lawn ??? , any connection ? .
Hong Kong dogs eh ? . Wondered why all those ex HK Benz's that hit the market here a few years had such a rust problem . Are the dogs targetting Jap bikes as well ? . Faeces Occurs .

Hey HK'ers,
I'm in HK frequently for work - just returned from there to LA a few days ago, and head back over in about a month. I usually stay in TST (of course) and several times have seen a red R11S parked around there - one of yours?? What's the deal on moto culture there? Any worthwhile club meets to drop into sometime? Where's the local BMW dealer? Any good accessories shops? My only riding contact there is a Harley-riding gwailo so he hasn't been much help. In the BMW Owners News recently there was an article by a guy who lugged an F650 actoss the Lo Wu border - wich I'd seen that! later sb |
