I wish I liked it... It just doesn't do anything for me.

BUT, I do hope they will make an attempt at keeping the R-S line alive.

My newest Motorcyclist magazine says that BMW announced a new 90th anniversary model, so I guess that is what this is (not a 900cc as I questioned earlier). I am wondering if the concept bike is a prototype for a production model made by BMW. It seems strange that they would announce a new model that is made by a third party. The video was great, but I don't see how this is a BMW and not an RSD custom. I don't know how tall Sands is but he looked pretty tight riding that thing, I am doubting the riding position is going to work for me, although if the handlebars clip on to the forks there may be some room for comfort improvement.

...remember this (the announcement)...:

...and remember this (at the Eicma a few years ago)...:

...and this (a Wunderlich version)...:

...and our 'own' Dutch Nico Bakker 1200 naked boxer...:

...I'll bet my money on the Bakker BMW - HCC...
...and it looks a bit as if Sands's bike is a more or less sporty concept-version of the Nico Bakker boxer...

The latest BMW project is the Bakker BMW - HCC, this on the R1200GS based streetfighter is totaly hand build by Bakker Framebouw. The Chromo Frame as well as the hand crafted aluminium tank and seat are build in our own house. Yokes and other CNC machined parts are als from Bakker Framebouw.

It would appear that BMW is doing some Open Innovation to come up with the next compelling line of bikes. They own the adventure bike market, and have attacked the sport bike market with a vengence and have been very successful.

My guess is you will see a bike like the Sands machine, perhaps a little less "tucked" similar to a Ducati Monster with the water cooled motor or at a minimum the DOHC.

would be a nice "other bike"

and some of the beauty is in the mystery ... in my case I'm thinking the mystery of not knowing how much of life after riding it would be spent walking around like a half closed pocket knife

Maybe it handles great, but I doubt we will ever know for sure since that was probably never the point anyway.
The forks angle reminds me of the Ducati Street Fighter. More for boulevard cruising than canyon carving. RS did a nice job with this, however!

Really? I always thought the street fighter fork angle looked too tight.

Copy Cat!

I was thinking that BMW caught wind of this thread and thought had had better get on the band wagon.

Seriously, I like the styling, maybe not the colors (all black for a cafe). However, if this will be just another 60HP 50ftpt 900 unless you are wealthy and want something to take the long way to Starbucks I don't see much of a market for it at BMW's prices.

My $0.02 and worth every penny!

Let's compare:

Hmmmmmm...

I should have said the original Streetfighter in my previous post.

It's a beautiful bike but once you put on it the turn lights, mirrors, plate holder, DOT tires, catalyc converter and an old beemer rider wearing an Aerostich suit it will get ugly no matter what.

More evidence the pros are better than everyday guys when it comes to creating customs.

But, like the K1200R and the F800R it likely wouldn't sell as there's no "billet."

Scuttlebutt is that this gets built by the end of the year. Limited production run. No word on power, price, suspension...

Gotta love it as a styling exercise but I'm sure like some of the posts suggest the production version will be much phatter and of course encumbered with all the emission and noise reducing stuff. The guys at Capital BMW were pretty high on it but still can't tell me why my R12S drops a cylinder at idle, or at least sounds and feels like it does, but that's another story.

Bad stepper motor. Virtually all R12Ss I've ridden with do that. Don't know why. One of our members chased at problem for a very long time, convinced he could prove what it was and fix it. Unsuccessfully, as I recall...
