Ha! It looks to have hay fever in that last photo.

I am seriously interested in trading in my R1200S and R1150GS on this one...it will be the first bike that I'll have test ridden since 2005.

Well dang. If it gets any wider it'll need two more wheels and we can call it a Bimmer.

No other way to conceal the radiator, Bob.

This view reminds me of a wise old horned owl.

...with all the fluids and enough air in the tires, so ready to roll : 274 DIN kilo ( = 604 lbs)...

...and DIN unladen weight means with a gas tank almost full (90%)...

...the 'old' DOHC RT did 259 DIN kilo (570 lbs)...

Given a few exceptions, BMW really does not seem able to make decent looking bikes! Same goes for their cars nowadays. You guys must have cataract issues or need higher prescription glasses; this thing is as ugly as a sin, not as bad as the ST but along those lines.

Oh, and beauty is not in the eyes of the beholder!

yea I really don't know what all of those extra pleats and curves in the front fairing
are all about the 05 r1200rt took some getting used to but it at least looked like it was
designed, this one looks like someone just added additional curves for the hell of it.
just because you can with modern manufacturing doesn't mean you should.
I had a st for a while but it was just to ugly for words. It doesn't appear to have gotten
the self driving headlight either. it will be interesting to see how they managed the heat,
a friend of mine rode a water cooled gs in the summer last year, said it almost cooked him.

"New Oldsmobiles are in early this year!"

If the looks of a new BMW doesn't put some people off, they haven't done their job.

Best example ever was the first "Bangle Butt" Five series. Longtime owners hated it at first. Net result = best selling 5-series ever. Thoroughly copied by others, especially Honda Accord.

BMW's not in the annual model change business and when something new arrives it's going to be around for nearly ten years and it has to look new and not be just a small incremental change.

Judging by photographs is silly in any event.

I can relate that I thought the R1100S was the ugliest BMW ever when it first came out. I called it the motorcycle with the 5-foot long gas tank. Now I like them (except for the mandarin ones).

But you're correct, nothing was ever as bad as the R1200ST.

It's not my style of bike right now but I think they did an excellent job of designing the new RT.

Being a BMW, Id wait a year or two before buying one to make sure they had most (hopefully) of the bugs out.

BMW is having a bad time right now with the handlebar switchgear on the new water-cooled GS and the 1600. They are into their 3rd (!) series of part numbers for supercedes.

I haven't heard anything lately about final drive failures in the last couple of years' models. Hopefully, that issue is fixed after over a decade of problems.

Since the press release devotes seemingly endless verbiage on engine vibration, I'd conclude that's a problem on the 2013 GSs they've already addressed. Rider magazine mentioned it in their GS test.

Vibration on the new water-cooled GS? I don't get that !

One of my biggest issues with the bike is that it no longer feels like a twin. They have it so balanced that it feels more like a 4-cylinder than a twin.

I like a little more "character" with my bikes but that's just my preference.
