When replacing the Eprom chip, does the gas tank need to be completely removed?
In a non-ABS R1100S, when you replace the eprom chip located in the control unit under the gas tank, does the tank need to be completely removed or can the control unit be removed with just the tank detached in the rear and propped up?

It's been a while but I don't remember having to remove the tank completely. You can prop the tank and get access to the screws to release the ECU.

Ok, haven't actually moved or removed it yet so I wasn't sure how difficult it is. I know I need some fuel line clamps which I found at HF which I will buy. I even have a new battery and air filter waiting to be installed, but riding that darn thing gets in my way since its so much fun.

As I recall it was a bit of a pain to try and reach under and I eventually removed my tank.
My recommendation would be to purchase two pairs of quick disconnects from A&S Cycles or some other shop and to install the QDs after/while removing the tank to upgrade the chip.

Ok, and hose clamps are inexpensive. I'm surprised I haven't needed them before. Always removing tanks from the bikes.

If the QDs are hanging on the side then why mucking around in back by the wood block?

Because their underneath the tank so unless you have hands of a 5 year old they still need to be connected and you need room to do so.
