P0014 trouble code question
Hoping to get some information pertaining to this code. I posted an earlier thread regarding "Boxster No Start" for reference just last week.
2001 boxster w/ 91,000 miles. Won't crank or start. Tested f/ spark and there is none. I pulled the P0014 trouble code for bank 1 and was wondering if anyone has any information or experience with it? My research has led me to the Variable Valve Timing Solenoid. Could this be the cause of my trouble? If so, can this be accessed without removing the camshaft cover? I've replaced the ignition switch, crank shaft position sensor, new spark plugs, and a new starter relay with no luck. Car will crank over if I jump the starter relay so I'm guessing the starter is not the issue. Also thought it might be the camshaft sensor ? Suggestions and/or advice are appreciated! |

What scan tool did you use to get that code? P0014 is not often seen on these cars, it indicates that the exhaust cam on one bank is over advanced.
If that is the case, at a minimum the cam cover has to come off, which requires some special tooling to hold the cams in place and reset the timing; and you still need to figure out how it got that way, as the exhaust cam centerline never moves, it is not controlled by the VarioCam system, only the intake cam moves.

I used a Maxidiag Elite by Autel.
So JFP, I'm almost afraid to ask at this point but if that code is correct, would that cause there to be no spark and not allow the car to start or crank over? |

That list could be rather long, starting with the CPS and ending with the DME. There are several things that can shut off the fuel and spark, the most common is the crank position sensor.
That P0014 code is worrisome as the exhaust cams are not part of the VarioCam system and do not advance or retard. You really need to put the engine at TDC and pull the green cam plugs out to look at the cam notch alignment, if that exhaust cam is really out of position, you have a lot of work ahead of you.......
