Snow Chains on a 986
I have a 2002 Boxster S and am planning a trip where I might encounter snow. I know all weather/ snow tires are one option, but can snow chains or cables be successfully used on my existing rear tires? I tried on a pair of snow cables (recommended for low clearance cars vs. chains) and the cables on the interior sidewall appear to be very close to rubbing on the rear shocks. Clearance in the wheel well is no problem.

Most often I think chains are used in conjunction with winter tires. And historically, winter tire sizes are slightly narrower than summer use tires. Also, need to check local ordinances re: use of chains. Sometimes they are not legal. There may also be a speed limit.. If you are only going 35mph or less, for instance, there might not be enough "buldge" that the chains would hit your suspension. if you try and cruise at 60, well, then my guess is they would rub. What size wheel/tire combo are you running? Any changes to ride height/alignment/camber?
