98 Doesn’t do what it used to do before it didn’t
Hello newborn to the pelican. Have a 98 box tiptronic purchased from PO non running but thought I would have a go! Dropped the box at home installed new bat turned key got lights but no crank of engine. After taking stock of what I had plugged in my OBD socket just to have a look around in the modules. The OBDII was not pulling anything from the memory. However I turned the key with the OBDII still connected and the car started right up. Forward a couple days after learning it would only start if OBDII was plugged in(it could be unplugged once running and continue to run) the car now no longer starts if OBDII is plugged in or not. Immobilized looks clean in and out. (Not wet)
Only other thing that seems odd and dunno if it suspect is OBDII will “talk” with all modules except motronic ecm. Says communication error. Any poss ideas or troubleshooting advise would be much appreciated Cheers |

Wet computer brain under the drivers seat can cause all kinds of issues. Was is stored outside? Roof drains blocked? ripped top?
Also, ignition switches are known failure points. After that, I got's nothing ![]()
