99 986 - Window Inoperability

I have a 99 986.

After being a bad owner and not putting my Boxster down properly for the winter, it sat in my garage and the battery went completely dead. After recharging the battery, the car now starts, and all electronics work except both of the windows are in the down position and the window switches have no effect whatsoever. Any suggestions on what to test/try next?

I've checked the fuses and both C1 and D1 (I read that the fused diagram is labelled incorrectly on some years) are good.

I'm assuming the window regulators and switches are still good since they worked last winter before pulling the car into the garage for winter.

Possibly related:
Last fall the top stopped going up/down. The top is in the up position. I diagnosed it and determined that I need a new handbrake switch. The switch is still sitting on my workbench, but will go in this week.

Until you replace the switch it is hard do diagnose.

It sounds like either an issue with the switch or perhaps a microswitch is not shutting properly considering the top is not going down on it's own.

Thanks for the replies.

The windows worked prior to sitting in the garage until the battery went dead, so I'm assuming the two are unrelated, but I'll replace the handbrake sensor switch first and then diagnose the inoperable window situation.

Do an OBD2 scan test on the car, look for faults on the driver or passenger door. Clear the faults and see if the problem clears.

This worked on my 997, not sure if it applies to a 996. sorry 987 vs 986

I finally found a weekend to replace the handbrake sensor switch. This fixed all the problems with the top and the windows.

Then, a few weeks later, the windows stopped going all the way up. Had the top down, put the top up, rolled the windows up as far as they would go, but they are now only about 3/4 of the way up at full closure. Is there a way to reset the windows?
