Is CPO program worth it?
I am looking at some Boxter S and I have found two models I want - one at the dealer and one at private sale. Obviously, the dealer sale will cost more -is the CPO program worth it? I am leaning towards it. The CPO 2001 Boxster S has 18" wheels and PSM and 31K. They are asking 34900.
I also had another dealer offer me a CPO 01 S with 27k, no PSM for 29,900 back in late Feb. Unfortunatly, this sold and is no longer available. So, what is this car worth and would you feel as safe buying from a private owner? Thanks,

I think the CPO is worth it, but thats really a subjective thing. Funny you posted this, because I am headed for a dealer to buy a 2002 Boxster from a dealer when I am done today, and it comes with CPO. It cost the dealer $1550 for the CPO from Porsche, and the inspection process (assuming they did it correctly) runs about $500 in labor.
I'm paying a premium for the Boxster partially because of the CPO. Its just piece of mind. If you decide to go to an independant dealer, and they offer you a warranty, make sure you read it carefully. Some of those are very exclusive in terms of what is covered.

Thanks. Can you "buy" CPO from a dealer for a car bought from an individual?

I believe "CPO" is only available for cars that a currently under warranty from the factory. But you should check with the dealer about extended warrantys.
Funny, I used to run a cafe on main street in Royal Oak many years ago.....

I bought my Boxster last night from a dealer.
They will see you an extended warrany on any car (there may be a 60k cut off), but the prices go up dramatically for cars with more than 35k. Another option would be purchasing just a power train warranty. My car has 28k, and they could sell me a 6 year powertrain warranty for $3,400. Might be good insurance....

Could you tell me your dealer so I could use this as precedent with another?
Thanks

My understanding, and I believe it is correct, is that you can buy a car with a CPO from a private party who originally bought it from a dealer. IOW, the CPO warranty is transferrable.
