CV Boot replacement Q

Bently says I have to pull the track rod (with that "tie rod end" looking thingy on the end), and remove that long aluminum flat bar piece, which the pet calls a "strut".

I am worried about two things.
1) I dont want to chew up that tie rod end looking thingy by using my tie rod fork, and I dont have the special porsche tool to remove this. If the wheel carrier were steel, I would get out the BFH, and lay one good blow where the track rod attaches, But I am a bit afraid of that aluminum carrier. Any suggestion on how to remove # 17 from # 1 without damage.

2) If I remove this long aluminum strut, do I need to re-align the rear suspension. Unfortunaly I just had a four wheel alignment at the dealer, They aparently did not notice that the CV boot was bad. Must have done the alignment with their eyes closed.

The strut is # 1 in the pic.

You can take out bolt #18 but mark the alignment location to replace the bolt correctly. This allows you to leave in #17 attached to #1.

You can take out the flat bar #1 without doing a realignment.

The strut is # 1 in the pic.

Be sure and loosen the big wheel nut before lifting the car.
I would have the rear alignment checked after doing this amount of work, IMHO.
Hope this helps...
