Boxster Project 42 : Installing a Short Shift Kit / New Shift Bushings

Anyone got any questions on Project 42 - Installing a Short Shift Kit / New Shift Bushings for your 986 Boxster, 987 Boxster, Cayman, Carrera 996, or Carrera 997?

There is one section where it mentions using a razor blade to chip away part of a bushings in order to get the old shifter out.

"To remove the old stock bushings, use a razor blade and chip away at the edges of the bushings."

Are these plastic peices the ones that are replaced with the aluminum bushings in the SSK? And if we want to restore to the original shifter, we would re-use the new bushing?

I am going to follow this project and want to make sure I can go back if I don't like the new shifter.

PS... Another good complementary project would be to install the Ashtray Delete kit since you have to pull out the ashtray to get the console out for the SSK install.

Wayne: A question on this project, specifically regarding removing the shift knob. Mine is identical to the one in the book (03 base Boxster). I don't see a 5mm screw and I don't see a "collar" to rotate 90 degrees. I did pull up on the knob, but it didn't budge, and I was a bit hesitant to really yank on it for fear of breaking something in the shift assembly. Any insight?
