obc hack--toggle switch illumination

One more question on the toggle switches, re night time illumination troubleshooting for obc full functionality on a 2001 boxster s.

I inserted 2 toggles, both fully control the obc, forward, backward, reset, etc....

However, I'm having trouble with getting nightime illumination to work. I tried cutting the intermittant rotary wiper control, the brown wire. Cutting this wire stopped night time illumination of the wiper control. So it seemed right. I then tried connecting either of the newly installed toggle switches, from either pin 3 or pin 5, to the brown wiper wire. Neither connection illuminated the toggles.

Couple of notes, the wires going from the toggles to the brown wiper rotary, are single cord wires, whereas the factory rotary wires are multi-wires....That shouldn't make a difference.

The two switches i'm using...One the 996 spoiler switch, the other, the footwell rocker switch. No body swaps.

Anyone have any thoughts why my illumination isn't working? The splice of the brown wire should work? Re-connecting the brown wire after the splice restores illumination to the wiper rotary intermittant control, but the toggles don't illuminate when connected with this brown wire.

OK...I got the spoiler switch illumination to work. I didn't realize i needed a two wires out from both pin 3 and 5 to the brown and blue wires of the intermediate wiper control.

However, I could't get the footwell switch to illuminate. At one point, in playing with the wiring, I got the LED light to work when i pressed, but then it didn't go on again...What's the wiring arrangement for the footwell switch--i.e. should pin 3 and 5 go to brown and blue wires also???
