Window not lowering when I open the door??

On my '03 S the passenger window is not lowering the 1/2 inch or so when I open the door. The same thing when I go to close it...

Is it the window regulator or something else?
Is this something that I can fix or is a dealer visit required?

I'm assuming the window rolls down with the window switch? Which would rule out a bad window regulator. Then it's probably the door handle switch that activates the window lowering.

Yes the window does go up and down when I use the switch.

So that means the door handle switch?
Anyone have a part # or diagram?

That project is in the book, so you should have everything you need when the book arrives. But, the key is that the switch in the door lock mechanism is broken. Replacing the mechanism fixes this problem. It's in the book. Also in the tech articles section of this site...

I did mine last month for the same reason.
Its all in the book.
Do not attach your battery back up without having your airbag back in place or you will get a airbag warning light that can't be deactivated unless you have Durametric software or you need to go to a dealer.
Don't ask me how I know but I now own a Durametric cable and software and it is well worth having.

It is common for the window to become loose on some of these cars where it attaches to the mechanism. I had this happen to mine. When I pulled the door handle, I could hear the mechanism try to lower the window but it would not move much. Once the door was opened, I could manually push down on it and it would allow me to close the door properly. You may want to check this before ordering a new switch.

Right, as happened with my car too, the regulator wore out. The window would drop down a fraction of an inch (like a millimeter), but not nearly enough. A new regulator fixed the problem after about three hours of trying to adjust the old one!
