Exclamation Manual or remote key will not work! HELP!

Hello, I have a 2002 Boxster (base) with about 85k. I just returned from a week (7 days) vacation and now I can't unlock the car. Neither the remote nor manual key work.

I understand the system is probably in sleep mode but shouldn't the manual key work?

I recently replaced the driver-side door lock assembly because one of the micro switches failed so that assembly is new.

Ironically, the lug-nut key is in the trunk so i can't pull the wheel in order to get to the emergency hood release - in the event that the battery is dead.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a 2002 Boxster S and had to use key in door to disengage the sleep mode. Your key does not turn at all in the door lock?

Yes, the key turns both ways without any problems for does nothing. If the battery is dead, shouldn't the hard key still unlock the door?

My understanding of "hard key" is key without the chip & remote (I think it's called valet key).
With this, you wont be able to start the car because the immobilizer wont detect the chip.
But all keys should manually open the doors but maybe something went wrong when you DIYed the driver-side lock assembly.
What about the passenger side?

There is only one key hole. Now i'm looking for the emergency release cable. does anyone have pictures or a way to find it? i've pulled the liner but still can't seem to locate it.

You can also look in the tow hook hole to see if someone put it there - this is a sure fire way to get at it when you need it.
Good luck - sorry no pics...

Try this:
Dead battery hood Trunk release My advise! Be Prepared.

BTW, the boxster is "switching off" the remote control if you don't use it within 5 days. Normally, when you unlock & relock in manual, the remote control function is reactivated and the remote should work.
In your case, it probably does not do the trick because your lock assembly is not working properly.

Good luck and keep us posted
