High Idle, Then Stalls and Rough Idle, Then Fine

Last weekend I was preparing for a Fri-Sun DE event at NJMP.

When driving my '99 Boxster around on Thursday afternoon, it was idling higher than normal: ~1200 rpm versus normally ~900. The night before it had sat out in some heavy rain - I have a hard top but the seal with the passenger window leaked enough to make the carpet on the passenger side pretty damp.

When driving down to NJMP that evening, I had been going highway speeds for about an hour. I turned onto some local roads and at the first traffic light where I slowed to a stop, the car stalled. I restarted it right away and the idle was really rough, bouncing from ~600 rpm to ~1200 rpm. If I blipped the gas and kept it above ~1500 rpm it was fine and drove, but as soon as I had to brake for a stop light or sign (and couldn't blip the gas enough) the car stalled again. This repeated until it had stalled on me three times. I got to a place where I could park the car, and I let it sit with the ignition off for 5-10 minutes.

After that short rest, I started the car again and everything was fixed. The idle was back to the normal ~900 rpm, the car no longer stalled, and for the remaining 2+ hours of my drive it was fine. I ran the car on the track for 3 days at the Drivers Ed event and it performed great.

The question now is what caused this strange behavior last Thursday and is it worth investigating it further? I haven't been able to pull codes but there's no check engine light (or any other warning light). Could this have been the moisture causing a problem with some sensor and now that it dried up, the car is fine? Could it have been some bad gas that is now burned through?

How was the carpet under the driver seat? this is where your computer sits. If it gets wet, wacky things can happen. No CEL makes it a little more curious.

The carpet under the drivers side was pretty dry, so besides general moisture in the cabin I think the dampness was only on the passenger side.

Any ideas or should I just forget about this unless it happens again?
