Key Unlock button not working

The button on my key no longer unlocks (or locks) my 2000 986S.

The key has a new battery. The problem started as an intermittent one, then only the trunk switch would work, now nothing.

When I unlock the car using the key itself you can hear the solenoids fire to allow access to the trunk locks, but about a second later they fire again and lock the trunks. The red light on the dashboard switch is on and you have to press it to unlock the trunks (after inserting the key in the ignition and closing the door.

Anyone have any idea if it is a dead security module or is there an easy reset for the system?

It's possible the key head has gone bad, take it to your friendly dealer and let them check it out. they can replace the key head.

I don't think it is that. I have two keys. I tried both. Then I put new batteries in both and still the same problem.

I guess it will have to wait until the next service.

I even tried all the "insert the key and press the lock button for 5 seconds" and everything else I've seen on the 'net.
