Had an alignment done today, got a couple questions...
I took my '97 Boxster to the best shop in town & had their best tech do a four wheel alignment. The front tires were wearing badly on the inner edges (both sides about the same) but the rears looked like they were wearing pretty evenly (maybe a little extra wear on the inner edges there as well but not bad at all).
Here's the print-out sheet: ![]() It was run on a Hunter DSP600 alignment machine. Here are my questions: 1. I have read a couple areas (particularly on a 928 forum) that the car shouldn't be lifted before being aligned. If it was, it needed to be settled first. It that true with this machine & the Boxster? 2. In the title, it said it for the Porsche Boxster 1997-2004 (986) except USA. Did the tech pull the wrong set of specs ??? Or am I just paranoid? 3. Finally, he said the rear took all the adjustment just to get the camber to where it was 'in-spec' but not where he'd like to get it. Is this ok for a DD? Any of the other specs look 'off' to anyone? Thanks guys!

As for number 2, Europe uses a slightly lower and stiffer suspension that U.S., which affects the alignment a bit. So I "think" he might have pulled up the wrong specs.
As for number 3, it should be okay. IDK about number 1.

No. 1: the alignment machine allows for the settlement of the suspension. On home alignments we have to roll the car and bounce it to make sure it's settled. Maybe that's were you heard that.

Inner edges can be worn by either Toe, or Camber, or BOTH.
Overall I'd say those specs look ok. Were these the "after" specs or the "before" specs ![]()

I just had mine aligned as well. Same thing as #2 above, the spec sheet says "except USA" but also says "sport". Not sure what that's about. I asked the mechanic and he said it was the right specs because that's what's in his database and they update it once a year.
There aren't any independent Porsche wrenches around here (at least, none that I could find) so I ended up getting the lifetime alignment from the local Firestone for $159. After I install the ROW M030 kit, I'll have it realigned by Firestone. But if I want it to be "right" I'll have to try to find a shop close by that'll set it to the correct specs. So I end up paying again for the alignment to have it done right. But at least I'll have the lifetime alignment so I can keep checking the measurements and at least get the toe-in set correctly. Anyone know of a good alignment shop in the Mongtomery area? I took a ride up to Birmingham to check out www.momentummotorworks.com but got there just after they closed. I'll try to head back up that way in a week or two. BTW, what *are* the specs I need for a daily driver that's driven with "spirit?" Before and after pics attached below. ![]() ![]() Last edited by bar10dah; 09-24-2011 at 01:30 PM.. |

I went back & the shop was more than willing to double-check things; turns out there is the "USA" choice & the "Except USA" option. He re-did the alignment for me at no charge with the USA settings. There weren't a lot of diferences; mostly front Camber. Here's the second pass: ![]()

Looking at that report, appears I'm within specs too. Thanks for posting!
