Strange Electrical Problem
I've just had one of the scariest experiences with my 05 boxster. It rained the entire day in NYC today and before heading home from work, I stayed in my car for a few min to enjoy the sound of rain hitting the soft top. It was very relaxing and a good stress reliever. As I started driving back home, a message popped up on the display screen saying that I need to check the right brake light bulb. I ignored the message and all of a sudden the convertible top started to open. It wasn't even unhooked and I heard a loud cracking sound. I immediately pushed the button down to close it and it stopped. Right after, the spoiler came out and kept going in and out. I was getting a whole bunch of messages saying that there is an electrical problem and take it to the workshop. The car started beeping and the convertible top continued opening and closing. I was stuck in the middle of the traffic and it was raining heavily. I some how managed to get home and covered the car to protect it from the rain. After a few hours, i turned on my car and the convertible top isn't responding and the spoiler is out again. After I turned off the car, I still hear some activity underneath the convertible top cover. Do you guys have any idea what is going on? I also heard something from the left corner underneath the steering wheel.

you need to check that your alarm brain under the drivers seat isn't submerged in water, if the rear water drains for the roof get clogged it'll overflow and start filling the car under the carpet....
id it did you need to unhook the battery and get the water out.... there are more drains in the battery tray....but see if it's wet.... .you may have more issues if so......but start there...

There is water under the driver's seat and the battery is drained out. I can't even open the hood to jump start the car. Do you think drying the area is going to solve the issue or is everything permanently damaged? Please assist me on how to open the hood without power? Thank You Bell.

not good news......
stay by pulling the drivers seat and removing the alarm brain, open out up and check for damage, chances are it'll have corrosion and burned traces, which means it was getting wet for a while..... you can use a jump box to the tab in the fuse box to pop the hood, id unplug the alarm brain first... unhook the battery..... dry out the car, shop vac is your friend...... now the bad news, if the brain is damaged it'll need replaced and coded to your keys at porsche.... I've seen numerous boxsters also burn out every actuator when this happens, meaning both door latches, fuel door lock..... while the battery is unhooked clean out your drains, use compressed air, not a stick.... chances are the rear drains are clogged, but I've seen torn grommets on the firewall too but those were from poor assisi installs running writes through them.... if the traces and such on the brain check out ok you may get lucky, but most likely not........ id make sure everything is dried out before you plug it back in and that the battery is charged.....also check the connectors on the brain for corrosion......

I finally got a chance to take a closer look at my boxster after that incidence. Its been sitting in my garage for a week and today when I finally started the car, the conv top isnt working. I used the durametric and found numerous codes relating to electrical problems. Unfortunatelly, I am illiterate when it comes to working on cars. I want to learn but dont have the time to invest. The only thing I can do is an oil change and brakes. I would like to take the car to the dealer for this particular issue or any experienced mechanic shop. Please help me on deciding where to take it in Long Island/NY area. I am willing to go further for a better mechanic. Thank You
