2003 Boxster Oil Air Separator
Could anyone tell me whether fitting a 2003 Boxster oil air separator is easier than the previous version? I've seen lots of articles describing this as being a very awkward and time consuming job, but all of those DIYs seem to be on the older style AOS.
The design looks easier to fit as the mounting bolts appear to be accessed from the top and there doesn't appear to be the bellows connection on the bottom. Does this tube with the large orange 'O' ring connect directly into the engine rather than through the bellows? I have the replacement unit, and am considering whether to attempt this in the short daylight hours we have here in Ireland in December. Any help would be greatly appreciated

That one is pretty Strait forward, yes the orange o ring part seats into the engine.
There is a year or 2 where it uses the updated aos which looks like that but it also changes the length is the pipe which goes to the throttle body so you'd need to use the updated pipe as well, but I don't recall the year..... there should be info on Pelican as our shops part supplier uses the same program and it tells you you need the pipe when changing to the updated aos..... the original pipe ends up beingabout an inch too short.... so look into that. Next to the orange o ring port is that small pointy port, that has a simple spring clamp/hose which it connects to, but it's easier than the below, there isa bracket that holds the cam sensor wire next to it which will make it slightly easier to access if you unbolt it, this wire can also get pinched by theaos so watch it closely when installing |
