Reverse lights stuck on - help!
Reverse lights remain on whenever my 08 Cayman S is running. Faulty switch sounds like the culprit, but I need some help finding it and removing/replacing. I gather it's on the top of the transmission and it's an easy fix, but I am a mere mortal who has trouble seeing and working on the topside of the transmission while staring at the bottom of it. And what tools will I need (I *think* I might be able to feel it but not very good with braille, either).
Any help for a fellow who's not the greatest to ever hold a wrench, but who needs to save a few bucks if he can by doing this himself? Thanks in advance for any help! |

Is that switch also called (or part of) the "multi-function switch" that's on the automatic transmission? If it is, that repair job looks like it would take a good portion of a Saturday.
Regards, paul...

I have a shop manual for a 986, and I see instructions to remove/replace the gear position switch for the auto tranny… that does look like a much more involved job, indeed!
The same shop manual indicates two different possible locations for the switch I'm looking for based on 5speed or 6speed tranny. As I said above I think I might be able to feel the thing with my fingers, but don't want to commit to trying to remove a part I can't see or have any good confirmation that it's the part I think it is, based on an old 986 shop manual. ![]() Still looking for a good clue on how to proceed... |

I think this is the switch (with the brass fitting) but not sure how to proceed. I tried tugging on the end with pliers, hoping the bit on the end was a plug for the wires, but no luck with that. Can't figure out if that's some sort of release on top, either. As for the other end, the wires just lead to a bundle of other wires, so no opportunity to unplug from the other end.
Please, please help… I'm begging! |
