Question on Boxster Door Handle and Lock

My door lock mechanism won't catch the latch in the door jamb pillar. I removed and replaced my passenger right side door handle to address the faulty spring that was preventing the handle from retracting fully. After putting the door back together, I found the hook inside the door lock mechanism stays loose, and won't grab the latch in the jamb. Is there a step to reset the mechanism that I missed?
