Ok, I have 2000 Boxster S. When I turn the key the car gets power but only about 25% of the time does it turn right over. The rest of the time I have to turn the key multiple times and hold it. After holding it for 5 to 10 seconds the car will start. I ordered the switch and installed it but it did not fix the problem. Any thoughts on what to try next? The switch I took out of the car was 4B0-905-849, so someone else may have been having the same problem. Thanks.

Have yo checked the voltage coming out of the ignition switch? Check the yellow wire when trying to start. If voltage is always Ok and the problem is present, check the starter lock relay.

yeah. check the relay(s) in the starter circuit. There will be at least on very high amperage relay, and they often fail intermittently. Relatively cheap and easy to replace.
If the relay(s) is/are OK. check and clean all connections in starter circuit and the starter motor, itself. |
