Code P1341

After years of lurking on this forum, and trying to fix my various Boxster issues, I've decided to join and ask for help. I bought my '02 3 years ago and she's been a POS. Trashed tranny then a blown AOS all repaired by a great indie shop. 18 months ago, a buddy of mine and I replaced the belt and one of the tensioner needed freed up. Then a coolant leak so I replaced the coolant reservoir. Last November, the water pump went out so it went to the indie shop on a flatbed again. I used injector cleaner 2 weeks ago, then she wouldn't start until I put in some more gas and also used starting fluid just to be sure. Now I get code P1341 which the OBDII reads as camshaft adjustment bank 1. I reset it twice and it's come back. The indie shop recommends I send the ECU off for repair as a starting point. That seems an expensive starting point. I've read everything I can find on this code and I'm open to suggestions. If I haven't made it clear, I'm not a mechanic. I cannot stress that enough!
