How long do Boxster engines last, I got 155K on mine before my oil pressure problem. The mechanic said he did see silver or gold metal flakes in the crank case oil. Can I fix the bearing and flush the engine with oil. I get prices like 8-10 K for a rebuilt engine. Do any Boxters reach 200K? I'm use to my 84 240 DL volvo 400K and still going. I expect a lot from my cars, don't like them self destructing, ever. Even a Ford or Chevy will run without self destruction.

Some can reach 200k no problem. It really depends on how it is maintained.

I'm sure Marc will post with his greater than 250k miles update. Pedro races the heck out of his around 200k miles.

The problem with a block that has already suffered deterioration and is exhibiting ferrous particles is the very fine particles distribute through the oil, get stuck in small oil passages and eventually affect all wear surfaces including main and rod bearings and IMS. It takes an expert to remove the engine and flush the block successfully, not an oil change flush. The best rebuilders won't reuse the block because they know even their chances of success are so low. They replace with a clean block because their reputation is on the line.

so you're saying is 200k miles is all she wrote?

my frankenvolvo '96 850 has over 200k and runs just fine...
doesn't leak or burn any fluids and will run with any rice burner...

my '99 boxster has almost 100k on it and runs just fine....
no leaks, no oil burn, etc...ims was also changed while doing a clutch...

I do have an OCD maintenance program for it as I do my Volvo....

No Tim, he just reached for a number greater than most achieve without coming to a very sudden stop or meeting some idiot who causes the car to be written off. As my following posting shows, 250k and running fine on a good maintenance plan is achievable..and knowing Marc lots more.

OTOH, I'll bet there are Volvos that didn't get near to 100. My only experience were a PV544 that was a nightmare seldom going 2 weeks without needing something major and my fathers whose muffler rotted out at 4k miles.
