Hi Wayne,
I have a Porsche Boxster S 2010 3.4-2 Ive owned for only two years, low millage 28k, runs beautifully, great millage 9.8 L/100km fantastic performance the one thing that I'm not happy about is the black oil every oil, filter change at 3000k. I use Mobile 1 0w-40w The Porsche dealer has no issues with my black oil. I would like to see clean oil. Can you please advise __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: Pelican Technical Article: Common Boxster Engine Problems and Failures - 986 / 987 |

I would try Castrol oil for a few oil changes and see how that goes. The oil will wear and color will darken, hard to not have it get black.

What makes the oil black? Blow by? What can cause blow by? Mismatch between the rings and the cylinder liner. Get the engine bore-scoped and checked for bore scoring.
You watch the oil change so you know it is being done, right? Any oil will absorb partially combusted particles/gases if they leak between the rings and walls. No need to suspect the brand of oil. You didn't break the engine in, speak of its prior oil change history nor say what your typical drive is so hard to guess at anything else. |
