Are there any other known failures with the 2.7 or 3.2L engines when rev'ing the engines high? It would seem the connecting rods are known to be weak points. If the rods were replaced with higher quality aftermarket rods, would there be any other known weak point other than breathing , raising the limiter/reflash to prevent the engine from reaching 7,500 or 8,000 rpm?

You could be at the limit of the valve springs. Best bet is to contact a Porsche engine builder and ask advice.

There are about 30 know causes of failure. I'd add to Nick's suggestion that the engine builder should have race prep experience. Balance, strength, durability. None comes cheap.
