2007 Cayman rear light cluster issue

I am having similar issues to an older post, but I did not see a clear resolution so will post my issue: I have a 2007 Cayman. When I turn the lights on the drivers rear lights-up, and the fog light as well, then after a few mins the whole cluster goes dark. Nothing. The error message "Check rear light" etc. comes on the display. If I shut the car off and restart it, the light will relight, yet the same sequence will repeat itself. Also, when I shut the car off the bulbs will relight for the shut-down sequence. In the blog earlier there was a suggestion it might be harness or wiring, this clearly is not that. Is there a control module for the lights? Is it part of the greater ECM? Has anyone else experienced this issue and found the cause? Thanks

Cause

FYI - This was all caused by the previous installation of several incorrect bulbs. Correct bulbs were installed, problem gone.
