Any experts? 1800 TI/SA

If there are any experts on the 1800 TI/SA I would appreciate comments or thoughts on this car that will be auction in Monterey:

I doubt there will be any experts ANYWHERE in the U.S. I have seen only 2 examples of the normal sedans in my 50 years... Never seen a perfromance version. Pretty rare stuff indeed.

I would not pay that much for it but if you want it and have the $$ go for it. I don't believe in buying cars or art as an investment, buy what YOU like and enjoy it... who cares what anyone else thinks.

Actually, I happen to be familiar with this particular TISA. I was working for Art Krill in his Boulder shop back in the late 80's when he ran across this car and purchased it for restoration, knowing full well it's exclucivity. Artie is not one to skimp on the details and you will find this example to be as advertised. It is the real deal......very rare indeed. Even fewer can be located in the condition that you will find this one in. If you knew Artie, you would know that it is in concours condition as it sits today.

Thanks very much for the responses.

Hans, I may be interested in the car for vintage racing. Do you know if it is prepared - engine, brakes, injection, etc. - as it would have originally been raced? Our vintage club requires that cars are prepared to the original specifications.

Thanks, Mark

Art used the car for vintage racing over the years and as such it was prepared for just that. I would imagine that the vintage racing groups that he was associated with had the same restrictions to race under original specification as you describe for your club. At the time, I know it had the original 1.8 liter engine, sidedraft carbs and a very rare close ratio five speed, which would have been normal trim for the vehicle. You will note in the pictures that the interior is also up to spec with the rather odd looking "performance" seats in place. I cannot comment on brake trim, but Artie is a stickler for detail and would have used the originals where ever possible.....and the originals were most likely larger than the stock 1800 sedans given it's racing heritage. It also appears that the original wheels are still with the car.

As I do not know who is actually selling this car it is hard to say how much of his handy work is still in place. It seems to have his signature concours look about it and from the look of things, it seems to be intact.

Hope this helps.....and good luck bidding
