I have an '03 R50, that looks like the oil has never been changed, no joke see pic. I bought the new filter kit from the local Mini dealer but it will not fit over the black plastic core that is attached to the oil filter housing. Should this core and the spring be removed from the housing now that the new filters come with a plastic core in them?
One more question: I have my oil pressure light coming on now, so I took it out and blew it out with some nitrogen. The green electrical connector was full of dark brown/black oil along with the oil sensor. Should this sensor be replaced? the engine sounds fine and is running smooth, so I don't believe the oil pressure is a problem Thanks.

WHOA! That us a bad filter.

If the oil sensor shows signs of leaking, replace it.

The filter should push over the cage, if it does not and the filter has the integrated cage, you can remove the cage from the filter lid.

For the filter to get that bad, there is a pretty reasonable chance that Very Bad Things have happened to that motor. The oil light may not be lying... You can try swapping in a mechanical pressure gauge in place of the sender to double-check the oil pressure readings. If they remain low, then your main bearings and oil pump are suspect.

Which, in that case, would point to a need to rebuild the engine. At the least some of the bottom end of the motor would need to be inspected.
