Stuck Drain Plug

So I recently decided that I'd start doing most maintenance on my wife's 03 base MINI. I got under the car today only to find that the Euro specialty shop she had been taking the car to over-tightened the plug something fierce! Any suggestions? I don't want to be the one to strip the pan, or something worse...

Heat, penetrating oil, shock (thumping it with a hammer), a good socket or driver... All the usual things for stuck fasteners, in other words.
