This seems like my current issue with my 2005 Mini Cooper S. When shifting, particularly in to 5th or 6th gear, there is a considerable POP. Only happens when shifting quickly, and at least at present not in other gears. It is not sliding out of gear, and it only has 40,000 miles on it. This kinda seems like the problem excepting the slippage. When it pops when shifting it feels like it is in the shifter, if that makes sense.

Could be a cable issue. Does is shift smoothly when stationary?
